Father Daughter Song

Melissa, on March 3, 2014 at 8:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

So I want a song that relates to me and my dad. I don't want to use a classic father daughter dance song or a song that is so literal. When I was a kid my dad and I would always listen to Mr. Roboto by Styx and Pink Floyd and all that kind of music. Does anyone know of a slow song in this genre (I guess 80s rock band would be the genre haha) that could work??? He also loves Green Day, The Killers, The Foo Fighters etc. I just want a song that fits us.

Maybe find a cover of one of "your" songs that you could dance to?

That's a tough one...I thought I had a good one, but, I need to give it more thought. I'll be back.

..okay, how about "When I see You Smile" by Bad English or "I'll Stand By You" The Pretenders

Personally I would pick Mr. Roboto and make it a fun dance. There is no set rule that you have to dance to a song about being daddy's little girl.

I am dancing to Daddy Dance with Me but Krystal Keith.

Sheryl Crow did a cover of Guns and Roses Sweet Child of Mine - might work for a Father Daughter Dance.

I was at a wedding where the bride and her father made up a cute dance to a Beatles song, because that was what they loved. If it's personal it will mean so much more than Butterfly Kisses (or some other song DJs recommend). My dad loves Fiddler on the Roof and has always said we'd dance to Sunrise, Sunset. FH isn't a big fan but other than an open bar it's the only thing my dad asked for.

Have you asked him if he had an idea of what you two should dance to?

Yea we talked about music and he does want a song that relates to us nothing like butterfly kisses and all that. @Laura I do like the idea of sheryl crow doing guns n roses I'll look into that thanks. Even though I know we could make it a fun entertaining kind of dance instead of slow we want to do a slow dance so just trying to see what songs I'm not thinking of. thanks everyone!

I think me and my dad are going to dance to Into the Mystic by Van Morrison. We are still working on a list though and haven't officially decided. If Black Water by the Doobie Brothers was a little slower, we'd be dancing to that since that's "our song."

I would suggest just playing the songs and dancing with him, one song will feel right. Or just listen to them yourself and choose one that makes you think of him the most.

I sent two songs to my dad (about a week apart) to see what he thought.

My mom later told me he cried to one of them and made her listen to it.

    That made my decision!

There are few things better than finding a song with a personal connection for the two of you. Go ahead and use "Mr. Roboto" or any of the other songs you two have a history with - or make a mix of a couple of them.

I strongly encourage brides to do this kind of thing and it always goes over great.

Maybe just don't use all 5 and a half minutes of Mr. Roboto Smiley smile
