Father of the Bride gift

JustBre, on August 30, 2016 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

What are some of the gift ideas you are thinking about for your father. My dad is so simple! He doesn't wear watches or have a need for cufflinks...he doesn't fish or drink...these are all the awesome things that I am finding on etsy and the like. What is something practical, like the jewlery I'm getting my mom, but still special???

I had the same problem. I bought my dad a pair of socks for our "special walk down the aisle." It's so common it's almost trite but I coudn't come up with anything else, my dad is terribly hard to shop for. Etsy also has etched bar glasses, keychains, and luggage tags for practical.

But for Christmas, I found this super cool map you can have custom printed on cavas---you can do world or the US. Either you have it done as a travel map so they can put pins in where they travel, or as a family map if you have a big family and put pins in for every place family lives, with special pins for certain events. I'm going to gift that to my dad for Christmas, and he can put a special pin in for our wedding (which they're traveling to, so it works as a travel map).

    Nothing.

Unless you consider the album that's included in the photographer's package a gift. We'll give that to him. All this gift giving is going to put us in the poor house.

I had the same situation with my dad. I gave him a handkerchief embroidered with a special message and the date on it. He actually teared up when he opened it, which surprised me. I was even more surprised that he had gotten it framed and was on display in the dinning room when I went home in April for a visit.

I got my father a pocket knife from Etsy. It was laser engraved with a message in my handwriting. I haven't received it yet, so I can't speak to the quality, but I thought it was a cool idea.

I'm embroidering the back of his tie for the day to say "You'll always be the first man I ever loved". More of a prop than a gift, so I will probably get him golf balls and a round of golf too. But at least I've covered the sappy part.

I am doing a picture frame that says something along the lines of "today a bride, always your daughter" (something like that) and a personalized handkerchief that has a little poem on it. My dad is a crier so I figured it would come in handy lol

I got my dad a tie bar that said "father of the bride", a hankie, and we got both dads a pocket watch with their initials on the front, and father of the bride/groom and date on the back. They loved them.

I got all the parents of bride/groom a really nice 8x10 picture frame, and I will later give them a wedding photo to put in the frame.

I'm getting my dad a canvas print of an engagement photo of us that he said he would like. I will also do the handkerchief thing because he is going to be a blubbering mess!

I got my dad personalized golf balls with our wedding date on them and a mug that says Father of The Bride on one side and I Loved You First Dad on the other side from Etsy.

I got my dad a tie bar (plain on the front, because he would prefer that, with "I love you dad!" on the back) from Etsy and a grill spatula with "Father of the Bride" and our date on the wooden handle (he loves to grill).

To keep costs cheaper I was thinking of getting all the parents nice frames with our engagement picture in it and after we get wedding pictures back I'd give them all a copy for the frames.

My parents are both very hard to shop for too, they always say they don't need or want anything.

I too got my dad a monogrammed handkerchief with the wedding date on it (bought on Etsy). He loved it! If your dad isn't a handkerchief guy, we got my FIL a "father of the groom" baseball cap with the date on the back and he loved that too.

Where did you get this? The tie bars I'm finding they only engrave on the outside!
