Father of the bride, what to wear?

Jennifer, on June 2, 2021 at 12:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My dad has been asking me what I want him to wear... and I have no idea! My FH and his groomsmen just went and picked out everything they're wearing so now I have a color go off of at least. But what should dad wear?

This is the look he's going for, but he will be in charcoal and the groomsmen in a lighter grey.

Should dad wear the same light grey as the groomsmen but add a vest, so he'll match but stand out too? Or should he wear a jacket of the same grey? Our wedding is in July so that's why we eliminated jackets from the party all together because we're worried it'll be too hot, so I don't want my dad to sweat under a jacket either.

Any opinions what we should do?

He doesn't have to match the groomsmen at all. It's okay if he does, but definitely not a requirement. I think having him in light grey or even navy would look cute (I'm not sure of your colors or anything).

Sorry I should've added in there that the girls are in plum and their ties and suspenders will be plum as well.

I think that either a grey suit or a black suit with plum accessories would be fine.

The fathers of the bride and groom don't need to match the wedding party. My husband and his guys were all in medium-dark grey tuxes. His dad wore a black suit he already owned. My dad wore a light grey suit that was on sale (he didn't own a suit that fit). Aside from the groom and siblings in the bridal party, the parents aren't typically photographed with the bridal party. As long as he matches the formality of everyone else, he's good to go.

Just a note - contrary to what the photo depicts, it's best not to wear a belt if you're wearing suspenders. Smiley smile

I know he has a black tux, but we all kinda feel like that would be a bit much when you can see what everyone else is wearing. I guess cocktail theme would fit the formality of our weeding, not too fancy but also not casual.

Oh I know, I'm hoping they're not wearing both, but I left their clothing up to him so we'll see lol.

Does he own a suit? Or just a tux? I agree that if the guys aren't wearing full tuxes, it would be a bit much for him to wear one.
