Father/daughter Dance Song?

Alexis, on February 16, 2022 at 1:52 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

My father and I have a great, but not normal relationship. We are definitely way more likely to sit back and have a beer than anything else, and have never been super close in terms of serious conversations or anything. I feel like most father/daughter dance songs I've considered are good, but don't fully resonate with me. However, In the City by Joe Walsh is a song that brings both of us back and has a lot of meaning. My issue is it's not really a father/daughter dance song at all and is sort of depressing when you really think about the lyrics. I am just asking for some outside opinions on the matter. I know it is supposed to be a moment for us to share and we shouldn't care much about anyone else, but at the same time I don't want a large portion of my wedding guests (like my fiancé's family that just wouldn't understand) looking around and whispering to each other "Why the heck are they dancing to that."

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

My husband used Josh Groban, you raised me up and I used Celine Dion, Because you loved me. Still one of my favorite songs today.

I think that sounds great even if you're worried what others will think. I'm doing "Once in a lifetime" by the talking heads which is not really a daddy daughter song its an 80s dance song with a super weird music video that my dad and I watched one time and starting doing the dancing in the video as a joke. So it's kinda our song now but we are going to get some funny looks for sure haha

That's good to hear. I kept looking for songs for unconventional relationships and such and couldn't find anything that fit, even those were pretty sappy or described not great relationships, I just wanted to know if anyone else was using a song that is "weird" because there really isn't any other song I can imagining dancing with him to. I think "Once in a Lifetime" is a great song though, and I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I would say screw what other people are going to think - this is your time with your dad. My step dad and I also aren't super close in terms of talking about our feelings and stuff but I couldn't imagine life without him. I chose "Teach Your Children" By Crosby, Stills, and Nash which is also kind of on the depressing side, but he got me into classic rock and it's the song i've always imagine dancing with him to, even before i met my FH

My dad and I have the same type of relationship. I considered Tom Petty's "Wildflowers (Home Recording)" from his posthumous Wildflowers and All The Rest release. It's slower than the original Wildflowers, and the lyrics are very casual that could be spoken as a father wishing his daughter the best. The reason I didn't choose it in the end is because we decided to use the original version as our recessional in the ceremony.

"You belong among the wildflowers,You belong in a boat out at sea.You belong with your love on your arm.You belong somewhere you feel free"

I love that you're going with Talking Heads! It's outside the box and will no doubt be memorable! We don't have a father-daughter song yet but my dad's really into 80's and 90's alternative so now I'm thinking of all the fun quirky songs we can do!

    Always go with meaningful!

My father's ringtone for me, for years now, has been "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses - so that's the song I want to dance to with him.

Absolutely agree Josie! My dad was big into 80s when me and my brother were little so I love it too. I think fun father daughter songs also helps dads relax a bit. I mainly wanted my dad to laugh because I know he's going to cry the whole day he's very sappy about me getting married and cries all the time about itSmiley smile
