Father/Daughter songs that aren't country?

C&S, on March 30, 2015 at 12:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

I can't decide on a father/daughter song! I used the (awful) search function on here and it seems like 90% of the suggestions are country songs. Country music definitely does not suit me and my dad. Can anyone suggest non-country father/daughter songs?

As well as any mother/son songs that aren't country? FH is having trouble finding one also.

If you consider songs that aren't specifically parent/child stories that opens up a lot more. We are using The Beatles "In My Life" for FH and his mom and Stevie Wonder "Isn't she lovely" for my dad and me (that one is about a daughter). I found a lot of options by googling, and clicking on You Tube suggestions after watching some of the song's videos.

My daughter was married Feb. 21, and used Butterfly kisses. She knew it would be their song the first time she heard it.

My son is getting married in November, and I have chosen All to you, by DJ Keo. Listen to it, it's amazing! He asked me to pick, so I did.

My dad and I danced to and acoustic version of My Hero by the Foo Fighters which was fitting for us. I had also considered Follow you by Shinedown (and because my dad is a Shinedown fan, also Second Chance and Amaryllis), Count On Me by Default, Time After Time by Quietdrive (yes, a remake).

I LOVE If You Needed Me By Lyle Lovett. I would have used it but I wanted my dad to know the song so I went the other route. It's such a beautiful song (there are many versions by others as well: Mumford and Sons, Emmylou Harris and others).

My dad and I are dancing to The Rolling Stones cover of My Girl. He's been a Rolling Stones fan since before I was born. I couldn't imagine dancing with him to anything else.

We're dancing to "Sweet Melissa" by the Allman Brothers... because, duh.

We thought about doing the mother/son dance to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, but they actually decided to go the country route with Reba lol.

At the last wedding I went to, the bride and her dad danced to "What a Wonderful World" sung by their live band (which was super awesome, in every respect) -- it was sooo sweet. Such a happy song, but so nostalgic for most people of any age!

Have you asked your dad for any suggestions? Maybe there are songs that remind him of you? I know that my moms "song" for me and my sister is "I knew I loved you" by savage garden. Its not typically a song for your children as its more a love song but the lyrics are ambiguous so it fits.

I was Miss (city here) when I was in highschool, and my dad and I walked down to "Right Here Right Now" by Jesus Jones. I have asked my dad to pick a song and that is his first choice. But we will probably do something by the Beatles, as that is our joint love. "Here Comes the Sun" or "All You Need is Love". We aren't sappy people and something slow wouldn't be "us" haha

I asked my dad and came up with some choices he might love (based on his favorite music) and we picked My Girl!

My dad picked Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman for our song. FH and his mom's song will be All To You by Scott Keo.

My dad and I are dancing to You Are So Beautiful (originally done by Joe Cocker but we're doing a Hawaiian version where they sing a verse in English and then Hawaiian, surprisingly my dad found it and picked it!)
