A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

We are kind of doing the same idea. We're doing a fake bottom with our real cake on top (that will be the one we save for our one year and use for cake cutting) but then serving a sheet cake. I think your cake is gorgeous and I wouldn't care what kind of cake we were eating. Cake is cake.

After receiving quotes on a 3-tier cake with a simple design from $500-$650 from bakeries, I made a faux cake on my own for $50 in materials and my sheet cake was $48 from a local grocery store. My MOH and her fiancé “carried” the cake to the kitchen for “cutting”. My guests were asking where the cake was from because it was so good!! My faux cake made for beautiful pictures and I stayed WELL within my budget. For me, I wanted pictures and a pretty display, however not spend hundreds on a cake. I’m up for saving $500 any day!!

OMG YAASSSSSS!!!! I've talking about doing this. Sheet cake to feed 200 people is so cheap compared to a wedding cake to feed 200 people. Sheet cake probably averages $0.50 apiece, however "wedding cake" is any where from $1.25 to $3 a piece. The guests aren't going to be paying attention the the non matching frosting and you get a beautiful cake for pictures! Can you send me the contact info for your lady?

I know this is an old post but I love your cake and totally get why you did it. We are considering the same exact option. Also, I was very surprised at all the negative comments. Anyway, I'm sure your wedding pictures were beautiful and I bet the sheet cake tasted amazing and no one knew any differently! Can you share which etsy shop you used? Thank you.
