A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

@Terri: "The cake is a lie" is from a video game. It is a joke, not an insult.

I heard of this at a venue I toured. They give you a fake cake so they can perfect the little cake slices they hand out. I'm indifferent about them.

@MrsWrs - simple answer - because it's my wedding and it's what I wanted to do.

When I saw this on shark tank the first time (pre wedding planning) I didn't get it. After pricing cakes, totally get it! She really did do a great job! I personally think paying $800 for cake is just asinine, so good for you!

Don't see anything wrong with this concept. You get your pretty "cake" at an awesome price AND your guests still get to eat cake!

I personally would not care as a guest whether I got a slice of the "fancy" cake or a sheet cake, just as long as I'm getting cake.

If you were worried about budget then why not just buy a cheaper cake instead of the $800 cake you wanted. I mean I guess it makes sense, not really but ok

Most of the time wedding cakes taste awful anyway! So much goes into making it look pretty but the taste is usually bad imo. The sheet cake will probably taste better lol. We are doing cupcakes from an amazing place down here called nothing bundt cakes and then putting a bundt cake on top for us to cut (like pictured). It's costing about 300 max and they taste ahhhh-mazing!

I don't get the point of this. The best part about cake is cutting into it to eat. This sounds like a pointless idea to me and a waste of money. If you're gonna spend the money on a fake cake why not get a real cake.

I'm also completely confused by this as many others are. If it doesn't matter to you if the guests know that you are serving a sheet cake then why not save that $165 on the fake cake? More money in your pocket or for other wedding items that are needed.

@MelodyC. - probably because she still wanted a fancy looking cake to cut without the$800+ cost. Makes sense to me.

@ OP have you checked into Walmart cakes? I hear they make them and that they're decent!

From an etiquette perspective as long you're serving your guests the same as you're getting it's perfectly fine. Better than buying a small wedding cake that you only serve yourself and serving something different to guests.

All this talk about cake...I'm glad it's cold here today. I'm just gonna have to bake a cake to warm up the house a little. Darn. Smiley winking

It looks very nice. As a person who loves cake it would kill me to pay $165 for a faux cake for show for a picture opposed to just taking pics with the sheet cake.
