A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

I’m all for saving money on unnecessary wedding items without it being at the expense of the guest’s experience. As a guest would I be be pissed to get sheet cake when a beautiful cake like that was on display? Not really. I’d be bemused and somewhat amused but I don’t think I’d care too much.

@Terri, you read, yet you did not respond to my question. I have not read all of the posts in this thread, but I did see that you state that 125 guests are inviting. So, at $30 for a cake, you are spending 24 cents per guest.

That just seems unbelievable to me. Perhaps it is wherever you are having this reception.

Again, as I stated, I have no issues with you having a faux cake to "cut", but I still have no clue how you are feeding cake to 125 people for $30.

Honestly @OP I get it! Our tiered cake was "for show" but it was real cake. It was smaller because we needed it for our charm pull. After the charm pull the cake was too unsteady to cut so the caterer took the top tier to the back to save for us. The bottom layer got "chewed up" because the girls pulled in wonky directions. We planned on the bottom layer getting jacked so we had the exact same cake in two sheet cakes

Doing the charm pull to represent my DH's tradition was more important than my guests being fed a cake that sat out in a room all day getting stale. The two sheet cakes were kept chilled and covered. Our guests loved the cake! If this is what your budget allows go for it!

I have truly never heard of this. As a guest it wouldn't bother me at all. It sounds like you are still properly hosting (although I skipped most of the comments lol). Hope the sheet cake is delicious Smiley smile

I'm sure the sheet cake will taste better so I wouldn't care. I've had cakes from folks who have been on tv shows...looks nice but honestly did not taste that great.

Personally I don't see the point in a faux cake other than as a prop for photos. However, your faux cake looks absolutely beautiful and I hope you love it! It's your wedding, not any of ours so it's your feelings towards it that matter the most.

It looks lovely! I completely understand there are reasons to go for such an option, not sure why people are so confused by this. It's your wedding day if you are happy that's all that matters.

I am happy you found a cake you like and saved some money. Maybe this Idea was even something that helps other brides . I think it looks lovely and I really wonder what kind of guests some of you have. I for sure know nobody of my friends would mind the sheet cake or the beautiful faux cake on display. Everybody tries to save money and likes to up-cycle hings to make them look more expensive. Even make up and shape wear or high heals or Swarovsky crystals are there to pretend or hide something and I never hear someone complain about that. I am surprised by some of the petty and critical remarks. But on the other hand it was eye opening and amusing. Who thought a cake could cause that strong of opinions in some people. So amusing!

Good thing these folks who care so much about your cake being real or not aren't your wedding guests! Anyone who's that concerned with the validity of cake or where it came from shouldn't be a guest!

I think your faux cake is gorgeous and I completely understand the need. I got an amazing good deal on my 4 tier cake ($560 including stand rental #blessed) and it was a huge hit, everything i could have wanted and most importantly delicious...but I shopped around A TON

I applaud you for staying on budget and keeping your priorities! I think your faux cake is absolutely stunning! Bravo!

I have been to weddings where the cake was faux and it was strange to see the cake sitting out uncut as the guests were being served cake. I would consider having the cake whisked away to the kitchen prep area to be "cut"...it would maintain the illusion of having that gorgeous cake being served to your guests.

I read through all the comments and I still do not see how this is "dishonest". Also, its a freaking cake, why is everyone getting so upset? OP, I think you know your guests better than anyone, so if you like this, then awesome for you!!!

Why do people always have to make someone feel stupid or question the decision. If I had a small wedding and wanted to have a three tier cake or save the money I would do the same. It's a great idea ! Looks beautiful and gives you what you want.

I highly doubt your guests will inquire why their slice of sheet cake will be different from the faux cake. Do what works for you, OP!

Wow! People are really serious about this faux cake thing! I think that OP has to do what is best for her budget and not worry about what people think. A good friend of mine did this last year at her wedding and the only disappointing thing was that people were waiting in huge lines for her to cut the cake (at 11:45 pm) and then she walked off after she fed the groom his slice. Everyone was so confused because she told us the cake was real. Then servers came around with the sliced sheet cake which was too frozen to eat.
