A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

I can't even. I find this strange. And leaving a space for a real cake slice for cake cutting pictures just makes it so much weirder in my opinion.

I think it's great idea, you saved money and got a beautiful design you wanted, nothing wrong with that. Real cakes can be really expensive, our venue is including a cake in our package per person cost .

This sounds like a fantastic idea. And now I must look into it.

Pretty... but I don't get it. Even a tiny wedding should have cake... and wouldn't the sheet cake you acrually serve look entirely different ? Whatever floats your boat though.

As far as Im concerned everything at a wedding is a prop, smoke and mirrors. Imagine what the reception tables look like without that tablecloth and decoration on them. The cake is beautiful and im happy for the OP that she got what she wanted. No one here is a guest at her wedding so no one has to see the fake cake or eat the sheet cake. Cant wait to see yall's BAM posts!

#FauxCakeGate aside, I'm just really confused about who is going to buy it afterwards? Somebody who's onboard the faux cake train and has the exact same color scheme/cake design in mind? Seems pretty unlikely.

Not all posts have questions....there are plenty where people just love to share something they are excited about...

@Terri Censorship? Really? Are you a whistleblower for a massive corporate scandal? No, you didn't read the CGs and got a comment flagged.

The CGs are set up to give a structure for arguing and disagreeing. They are supposed to prevent people from being straight up horrible to each other.

Read the New User sticky and the mods will leave your comments alone.

This is interesting. If it helps you cut down costs and makes you happy go for it. Like you said you'll still have the "cut" piece for pics. Most ppl could care less where the cake comes from as long as it tastes good

Wait, people are really up in arms about a fake cake??? Geez, i definitely hope that none of my invited guests are shallow enough to be offended by sheet cake. Lots of things at wedding are "for show". Come on people....

People clearly do not understand that these people are people and it is their wedding. I don't understand why burlap and boots is a thing at weddings, but by the grace of god or whatever you do or don't believe in we don't have to. It is her wedding and if she is happy with the final product then that's all that matters. I'm sure people won't understand some of my wedding, but that's okay. She was sharing to provide some insight to people who may not know this option exist to be helpful not to get ridiculed and questioned literally 100+ times about "why this" or "why that" or I don't get it or "I would be mad if I was a guest". If someone really got upset that they were getting a piece of cake that's a square with buttercream opposed to the other at my wedding I would show them the door. I think you did great, and it's beautiful. Smiley smile

I feel like it's a waste of money, but that's just MY opinion. If it works for your wedding, that's absolutely great.

We're trying to save money, and thus far i'm not impressed by some of the bakeries cake designs i've seen. My mom's best friend works at publix, and their cakes are amazing, so we're looking into that as an option.

@Terri Maybe try re-reading my comment. Where did I say you did? I said our CGs exist for a reason. I said you aren't being "censored". I just said if you feel you are being censored it's because the mods have decided you violated our guidelines. If you follow the rules you won't be "censored"
