A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

@Terri Please show your work. I just re-read my comment. I told you that you weren't censored. I said the CGs exist for a reason. I told you to read the CGs to prevent the feelings of "censorship" in the future. I don't know how you could have gotten that I said you "attacked" or "were horrible" to anyone. But please, a quote would be appreciated.

@Terry Beautiful faux cake. Dismiss all the other rude comments and do what works for you and your budget. I've been to weddings and all people care about is eating tasty cake.

I say if a guest gets served delicious cake and still complains about someone's faux cake, that guest shouldn't have been invited in the first place or they should bitch and moan about it out loud to other guests so everyone can see how petty they are.

@ MrsWrs I laugh at all these comments including yours. I have seen so many rude comments its a shame. Terri can do what she wants just like I am sure you are doing what you want at your wedding. Once again cheers to you Terry for finding ways to save money and utilizing it in other areas!

I didn't read all the comments on this thread, but as a guest I would not notice if I got the cake displayed or not. What is the big deal? It's beautiful!

At first I thought this was a little weird, but ultimately if it's what makes OP happy, she's still hosting properly and it's saving money, I don't see the big deal. Our guests thought that our cake was fake and they were perfectly fine with that, they were even more excited when they found out it was actually the real cake lol.

Personally, I would go with a smaller, real cake to cut and sheet cake, because our baker quoted us for that option and it was cheaper than the fake cake route, but if this is what makes you happy OP, good for you. The fake cake does look beautiful!

Ah, yes, the classic WW thread where completely unnecessary judgment is veiled under the guise of "but we're just trying to help/show you why your guests will side-eye you"...complete with people jumping to the defense of vendors because *gasp* someone disagree with their opinion and actually said as much.

It's a beautiful fake cake, and the scenario is not a damn bit different as far as I'm concerned from a couple purchasing a display cake that they cut into (and often eat!) and then having a sheet cake in the back that's served to guests. I've never had an honest-to-God "wedding cake" that I really enjoyed, anyway.

This thread was entertaining to read, though.

Without reading all the comments, I don't understand how this gets so much negative feedback when I often see the recommendation on this forum to purchase a small cake for cutting and then have a sheet cake for serving.

Despite having an engineering mind, if someone placed a piece of cake in front of me I wouldn't be analyzing it to see if it could come from the whole cake I had seen before. I would just want it to taste good!

@Abbie - LOL! That pretty much sums it up. I don't "start" discussions often - in fact this may have been only my 2nd or 3rd time doing so. With this experience I've learned something valuable regarding allowing vendors to post. You live and you learn.

LOL wow, such strong reactions. OP, do you. Your guests are going to eat a delicious cake. No one is going to care or notice that your cake is fake.

How is this still going on? Are people still upset over a faux wedding cake? I'm glad you are doing it because I think it's a great idea. Please let us know how everything turns out!!

I think you had to do what you had to do and it's, after all, your choice. The fake cake is beautiful and will look great in your photos and that's what you really want. I don't think anyone will judge you by eating another cake which is served sliced with coffee anyway. I did go to a wedding where they made a two tier real cake $300, and then they added two layers to the bottom of a faux cake about $150. They placed it on a beautiful silver plateau (rented for about $40) and it looked fabulous. Congrats and best!

Still...weddings are smoke and mirrors and everything is for show. Plain and simple and this is no different. How about we all judge each others' decor, dress, makeup, and decide what is and what isnt necessary about their wedding? Everyone is entitled to their honest opinion right?

Good lord, is the Styrofoam cake debate still going on, lol? Come now, there are elements of weddings that are smoke and mirrors -- the fake smoke that encroaches on the dance floor while the first dance is taking place or the fake snow that falls from the ceiling while the couple dances to "At Last". Other smoke and mirror tricks...hmmm...fake drinks? No. Oh wait, yes, that does happen. They're called mocktails and they fall neatly into the smoke and mirrors category. Fake apps? No...I've never seen that. Fake flowers? Oh, yes...I've seen that. Fake dinner? Oh, no...no smoke and mirrors there. It's all real. Fake wedding cake? Yes, apparently that's currently an option.

So go for it. It's what it is...a money-saver backed up by a sheet cake. That's fine...just fine, but please, keep the bar open.
