Favorite food at a wedding

Whether at the cocktail hour or the main dinner, what stands out as being your favorite? Are you serving the same to your guests?

We wanted lobster at our wedding and having it as part of our brunch reception.
Additionally having a wedding in the Keys it seemed appropriate to have something with Key Lime, so adding key lime cupcakes

I have been to at least 50 weddings, and I have literally never loved a meal I’ve had at a wedding. It was because of that, I made food for one of my number one priority is at our wedding. We are hiring a Cajun chef in New Orleans to prepare delicious traditional NOLA foods for our reception. I don’t think we are going to go crazy on food during cocktail hour since the food at our reception is going to be so rich. Also, our cocktail hour is really only going to be about 30 minutes, so I think most people will be hitting the bar during that time. I am thinking maybe just a couple local items for cocktail hour- maybe alligator bites and mini muffulettas. I have to be honest though, my favorite part of a wedding in terms of edibles is the wedding cake! Nothing beats an absolutely delicious, moist wedding cake. So many of them look beautiful and taste so so. I am really nervous about this part since we are having a destination wedding and will not be able to do a cake testing. I’m crossing my fingers it turns out delicious!

As a super fan of brunch, I am loving this!! If I weren’t so married to the idea of having a ceremony at night, I would have totally done a brunch! We are compromising though, and having a farewell brunch on the final day of our destination wedding weekend

In my culture the biggest thing is having a lobster at the wedding so my husband was really fixated on at least having that. Another big thing that’s popular is having duck but that’s more premium than the lobster I usually think. So instead I wasn’t going to do the duck but we ended up doing it anyway because when we went to the tasting we had it and it was phenomenal. After our wedding we had rave reviews specifically about that duck so I’m glad that in the end we splurged for it.

We always wanted a sunrise wedding (we’re morning people), we also wanted all our festivities to be done by noon to allow our guests to enjoy the surrounding area if they didn’t want to hang with us. We felt if they are traveling to celebrate with us, then the least we can do is give them private time to enjoy the weekend doing what they want.

In western Pennsylvania it is common to have a cookie table at a wedding. Hundreds of different types of cookies end up on these things and they are great for snacking.
Other than cookies and the cake, I don’t remember the food from any of the weddings I have been in or attended. So it has never been amazing or bad in my memory.

One of my bridesmaids is married to one of my husband's groomsmen and at their wedding they had fried ravioli as a passed app during cocktail hour. Other friends of ours and I loved it so when we got engaged I knew that was something I really wanted. Our venue coordinator was amazing and she told us if we didn't see something we wanted on the menu all we had to do is ask and she would talk to the chef. The chef agreed to make them. They were delicious so I'm really glad we asked them to make them.

My brother’s cocktail hour was amazing. There was way too much food, including an amazing sushi bar. We’re not doing that at our wedding, but it was great.

For cocktail hour: mac and cheese balls. Our venue found a way to make comfort food super high end, and these were *AMAZING*. ...I may have grabbed the ones set aside for the BP, because, wow, they were tasty.

At dinner, my personal favorite was the roasted rosemary potatoes. All the food was good, but... I kinda want to make these into a family gathering staple. Seriously, they were so good.

Best wedding food where I was a guest was at a delicious Chinese restaurant. The multiple courses were all amazing (except the shark fin soup, not my personal taste).

Usually smaller weddings (fewer than 50 guests) had better food (at luxury resorts or professionally catered), than 100-200+ person guest weddings at hotel ballrooms. But I mostly attended weddings 15-20 years ago and can’t remember any particular dishes.
