favors - what's the WORST one you ever received?

So, people are always asking if they are necessary (and they're not) and what the best ones were (most people say edible is the best) but just for fun, whats the worst one you ever got? Mine was a rolled up scroll thingy with a cutsie poem on it, thanking everyone for coming. Complete with a fake silver wedding ring around it. It was about as big as a post it note. Could've put that on the back of the program, what a waste of money and time to roll them all up... anyway what about you? :-)

I have to confess that I love the wedding mints (dinner mints), even if they are super chalky lol. The almonds are really gross though. Love the tradition though so if you're into that I say go for it. I was thinking I wanted to do edibles but FH was adamant that we need something to give people as a keepsake. His last idea was a cup/mug/shot glass or something like that with something edible tucked inside but we decided to let the planners hear him out and make his uncoordinated idea into something pretty.

I try to not complain or judge about free things, but the most unoriginal ones I've seen was a little box of skittles. I'm not even sure why they included a favor if it was just a handful of skittles. Also got some other candy once that was so hard it felt like I was nearly breaking teeth on it.

FH has also been a groomsman in a lot of weddings. We have three beer mugs and a shot glass. I actually use the shot glass, but the couple is divorced now so I find it ironic.

A coaster with their names and wedding date. I felt bad when I threw it away later because it was nice and I'm sure they paid a pretty penny for it, but there was no place for it in my house. Maybe if it wasn't so personalized I would have kept it.

I've thrown out anything that's not edible (or edible, but gross). Worst ever is a tie between koozies and stupid plastic bells.

A DIY coaster. It actually wasn't too bad to look at - they used a tile and put their names and wedding date on there. I cut my hand pretty bad at the reception picking it up to look at it. I'm sure the event staff thought someone at our table got into a fight when they saw the blood I left on the table linens on my way to the ladies room - oops. Aside from the hazard, I really had no use for 1 coaster, personalized to some other couple, in my house. I took my bloody coaster, marked with my DNA and threw it away when I got home. I felt bad because I knew they put work into it, but... oh well.

We still haven't decided what our favors are going to be. I really tend to be in the "give me something edible" camp...I am not a fan of having something with someone else's name/date on it, so I can't imagine my guests would be either. FH really couldn't care less. Ahhh, one of the details I really need to get a move on. Smiley smile

We are doing the jordan almonds. It's a Greek tradition. We are doing the white ones housed in rachetti branches. It was the one aspect of the wedding my mom drove me nuts about (spent more time looking for these then wedding dress shopping) because she is making them.

It's the jordan almonds from the tray the crowns are on that are used for the single girls since those are blessed by the priest.

The worst one was my cousins. She did the almonds also but she put them in this really ugly bag.

I was thinking about matchbooks, and some mini axes for the BP. Basically worthless but they fit our theme. We've also looked into customized mini JD bottles, but I don't think we'll actually be able to afford those, and my best friend doesn't drink so I'd feel silly giving him a custom shot bottle of whiskey.

Forgot the worst. Worst was an ex-best-friend who rescinded my invite after I had bought their wedding gift, had me and my girlfriend at the time watch their dogs for them, and then brought us back all their leftover favors. Bubbles for the grumpy girlfriend, manicure set for me (the nail biter), and a salt and pepper set that looked like little birds. I hate birds. Same couple of friends later asked us to move in with them and then kicked us out with a week's warning, the week after the girlfriend at the time's mother passed away, because the wife found out she was 2 months pregnant. (In a three bedroom house.)

I wouldnt be doing one at all, for budget sake, but FH is in the coin business. So, in a nod to that we are giving gold chocolate coins, wrapped in tuele rounds found at the dollar store. We are doubling them as our place cards using business cards, with a floral design on them, also from the dolar store and blue ribbon that i havent yet found....at the dollar store lmao :-) should cost pennies on the dollar.

I really don't see the point of favors. It seems like the little goodie bags you give kids at a birthday party to make them feel better that they weren't the ones getting the presents.

I went to one this past summer where they did chocolates with a card saying that a donation had been given in our name to the One fund. which is fine i guess but mehh i wouldn't have even noticed if they didn't give a favor at all, they could have just donated the extra $$ at that point.

we are doing personalized koozies, i am going to get nice ones from etsy. we like to get koozies and our friends will use them. our guest count is low that it will probably only cost us $100 max.

I don't understand wedding favors that have no real function other than sitting on a table or in a drawer collecting dust... PARTICULARLY if it has couples name and wedding date.

So... little glass heart paper weights, a single place card holder, a single coaster, a shot glass, a little trinket box... ugh.

I have a bottle opener and a wine opener that I still use 5-10 years later. And there was a little picture frame (used as place card) that I put another picture in and turned into a Christmas ornament.

I agree with FutureMrsPereira. Instead of favors, we're putting a note on each table letting people know that instead of party favors, we've donated X amount of money to whichever charity of our choice.

My first wedding nightmare was that the favor were those pastel almonds.

A champagne glass candle with their names and dates etched on the glass. Am I the only one wondering why I would display someone else's wedding memorabilia in my home? I'm just not a fan of knickknacks - they always end up getting tossed or left at the table. I would rather just have something edible.

Hmmm... I have to say, I'm not a fan of "we are donating to charity in your honor". It isn't a wedding favor. My thought is if you want to donate, do it without announcing it to everyone. And if you want to donate "in my honor", donate to a cause that I support. I would say just donate without calling it a wedding favor. Favors aren't necessary anyway. That's just my opinion.

I haven't been to many weddings where I remember the favor. The last wedding I went to had shot glasses, which was great for me because we don't have any lol but my parents (almost 70) thought it was stupid because they have no use for them.

At our wedding we did scratch-off lottery tickets in little silver envelopes with a cutesy label that said "lucky in love" and our names. I have no idea how they went over because I got zero feedback about it. One guest mailed us back 3 tickets that won (equaling like $20) but that's not what we did it for lol

We are having a dr who themed wedding, and when the dr "regenerates" he gets a brand new key to his time machine the tardis. We are doing little tardis key chains, with a random key on it (as if you are the newly regenerated dr.) and a quote from the show on a little tag attached.
