Favors- Will they last?

Ashlee, on September 9, 2014 at 1:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

I am making my Smore favors this sunday. My question is will they stay fresh until 10.10? This is the exact packaging i am doing.

Not sure...I'd be worried that the marshmallows would dry out or the graham crackers get stale. I guess it would all depend on the wrapping used and how properly you seal them

You might be able to refrigerate them to keep them fresher. But then again, the chocolate might get that white film on it, which wouldn't look good. I would make them closer to the wedding. Like a week before.

I am worried about the cracker and marshmallows too, I have to make 225 of them! I wish i had the time to do it closer but my weekends are totally booked already until the wedding!

I went to a bridal show in Houston, and they were passing these out to everyone. I took two home, one for me and one for FH, as this is exactly what we were considering doing for our favors. I have NO idea when they were made, but the graham cracker was beyond stale. The chocolate was fine, of course, and the marshmallows seemed to be on the verge of going stale.

If I were you, I would wait till the week of your wedding.

Hi Date Twin!! Can you beg, borrow and steal some friends and family members to help out to bang them out a little closer to the day of?

Not at all. this was my sisters favors, she made them in 3 days before and the mallows were mildly stiff. but the day after the wedding when i got them home, they were stale. but i kinda dig stale mallows. the grahams she bought were cheap so they were bad anyways. i took a ton of extras home. i just ate stale mallows & chocolate. mallows arent meant to be open, so it happens. most people won't roast them, just eat them as is. we tried roasting them at home over the stove, FH microwaved his into a mess. hahaha

Ashlee...this would be when you could put your bridesmaids, mom and FMIL to work...I suggest pick a night (maybe 10/8) and get a couple bottles of wine and some pizza and then get to work! If you get 4 other people plus yourself, thats only 45 a piece or maybe you could make some kind of assembly line

You might have to delegate the task to someone else, otherwise your guests will have stale favors and all your hard work will go to waste. Smiley sad

Don't worry. You'll figure something out!!! If all items are already in their original packaging they will be fine. Its when you open everything and put them in another packaging, is when they will go stale.

It will all work out, just don't open original packages until MAX a week before your wedding Smiley smile

I would definitely recommend waiting as well, until the week of the wedding. They will go stale.

If you have time set aside this weekend you can do some prep work. If you haven't already print, cut and hole punch the tags. You can also cut the twine to length. It will help a little to have that already done before you assemble the week of the wedding.

The week of the wedding after you assemble them store them in a airtight container in a cool room. Don't refrigerate as was said it will mess up the chocolate, it can also make the crackers go stale.

My guess would be no - give one a try, see what its like in a week, then decide. personally I'd wait until the weekend before at the latest, just incase. You don't want stale favors
