Favors/welcome bags

Simone, on March 1, 2020 at 8:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
I’m having a destination wedding this October. And I am giving my guest welcome bags. RSVPs don’t come back until June. But, I wanted to start working on getting some things like the customized tumblers. They are at a good price now. Did anyone just go by an estimate and get things done early?

I think it’s harder to tell with a destination how much of what you are going to need until you get the RSVP’s back. You never know who will actually be able to make it.

I would plan as early as you can especially if things are on sale, if you have to many tumblers you can always use them yourself down the road. If you end up short people can have different cups noone will care.

Be careful with buying “stuff” for a DW welcome bag. Most often, water and snacks are appreciated. Perhaps a mini sunblock if your DW is somewhere sunny. But as a guest I wouldn’t want to cart home a tumbler or other items.

I understand what you are saying. It is somewhere sunny. As for me when I’m on vacation in the Caribbean those tumblers are good to have. Keeps your drinks cold and you have your own personal straw. The resort does not supply straws.

Got it! As a light packer I worry about luggage space. But what you’re saying makes sense. Especially if the tumbler keeps your drink cool. 🍹

I bought tumblers when they were on sale for Black Friday, and now that rsvps are all back, I’m going to have 10 extra! However I’m going to personalize and give one to my photographer, wedding coordinator, my boss before I leave for two weeks, etc just as nice little gifts. Then I’ll also make a couple different versions for me and FH, like a set with our names, bride and groom, Mr and Mrs, etc to use the rest up.

There's nothing wrong with buying too early when they're on sale, because the worst that could happen is that you'll have a bunch of extras to keep for yourself. If you already know what you want, I'd recommend buying now while they're one sale! I'd also recommend planning to put some snacks in the welcome bags, since these are highly appreciated (we got most of the snacks to put in ours at Costco).

Where’s your wedding? I’m having a DW in October too. Besides snacks where else has everyone purchased items for the welcome bags in bulk; like the meds, sunscreen, etc. Amazon? Costco? BJ’s?

I think if you're confident in your guesstimate go ahead and order! You can always have a few extra for home, or gift to wedding vendors and staff.

Other fun ideas for personalizing welcome bags are stickers or hangtags for the bags, a personalized welcome note from you and your SO, personalized water bottle labels. Welcome bags are fun and just remember, guests will be grateful for even a small amount of some essential creature comforts!

Also, today is National Wedding Planning Day Smiley ring and in celebration, our team at WeddingWire is offering 15% off any purchases from the WeddingWire Shop this month (3/1 - 3/3) with discount code "NWPD20"

    Good luck!

We are doing a DW in Hawaii in May. I bought everything before I knew for sure how many people were coming. I went the route of ordering things that they will use on the plane and or while they are there such as face masks, hand sanitizer, sun block, aloe, cute door tags, collapsing water bottles, beach bag, pashminas, healthy snacks and etc.
