Feather Centerpiece People - Help!

auberginequeen, on August 2, 2016 at 7:38 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

I'm doing ostrich feather centerpieces and am getting overwhelmed with the options, trying to figure out whether to get everything separate, order the whole thing, order the vases one place but the tops from another place, aaah!

But anyway, my main question is - when I look at the kits for the whole centerpieces, some people do multiple feather sizes and some just one.

Like one I'm looking at comes with 10 x 14-16”, 10 x 12-14”, and 10 x 10-12” feathers, and another just does 25 13-16" feathers??

Did any of you do this and what did you choose? I swear all the stock photos are the same, I can't tell by the photos they have posted if one is better than the other.

Also do you think it would be better to get clear vases and fill them with waterbeads or something like that, or just use the white vases? I'm planning on getting floralytes for them as well.

Thanks on any advice you might have!

I don't have too helpful of advice. Just make sure you're aware that each should have about 25 feathers in them. I thought about doing these until I priced them out. You'll be spending several hundred just on the feathers alone. If you're aware and comfortable with that price, my advice is go with the longer ones. And make sure you get the plumes. Like I said, about 25 per centerpiece, and the best thing to use will be the foam filler that is used for flowers. It will keep them in place. Look up YouTube videos.

When it comes to making them and the sizes depends on what you what full and grand or full and short , It's best make them one day in advance the feathers will fall over night , I brought 2 sizes and to get them cheaper by the pound ,I did one pound of the taller 21-24 that's 170 feathers, one pound of the shorter wing tips 14-17 that's 200 feathers , I am using 18 talls and 18 shorts per centerpiece.

I called and place my order since I wanted them by the pound. The website I don't think shows by the pound price.

I've made these a million times! We always used the same size and about 25-35 feathers per. Use glue dots to keep the foam balls on the vases, but FYI, they will be a pain to remove from the glass if you plan to resell or reuse. If you count out the feathers and bag them by centerpiece, it'll make assembly quicker and they'll all have the same fullness.

If you want the look in them at picture you'll want to light them from below, or inside. Below is what that I prefer and we usually used spandex covered light bases. Water beads will give more interest, but you'll need to prep them in advance and they're slippery lil fellas. :-) water beads will also hide acolytes (submersible LEDs) if you light from inside.

I don't remember where we sourced the feathers but I know we ordered by the pound. The vases came from 10 Strawberry st, and the light up bases from Fancy Faces.

I know that was a lot, I hope this helped!
