Hey friends!!

I AM MARRIED!!!!!!

My amazing HUSBAND booked the best honeymoon EVER. We leave next week. It is a 2 weeks cruise in Europe, so we are actually going to go a few days early and a stay a few days after to explore Europe a bit more. It will be SO fun and I am so excited to spend this time with my new husband... but I feel SO guilty leaving my cats. My two kitties are very dependent on me. They crave a lot of attention and always need to be right next to me. I am bringing them to my mothers house so that they are not alone all day long for 3 weeks, but I still feel so guilty. I can't get over the fear that they will think I abandoned them or they will hate me or not love me when we get back... am I crazy or did any other pet lover have similar fears? How did you cope? How did your fur babies react when you got back? Anything to ease my fears or ideas to make sure they know I'm coming back will be SO helpful to my sanity.

Ugh we have a 1 year old puppy and we feel SO GUILTY for leaving him for two weeks. Luckily we are leaving him with my mom who will spoil him rotten, but still the guilt is bad--so I feel you! :/

Aww! They may give you a dramatic cold shoulder when you get back, or they may be perfectly fine. I'd make sure they have a comfy cozy designated area at your moms, full of easy to access "hiding places" where they can feel comfortable (under a bed, in a box, those sack/ cave beds if they are into them). Bring things from home, especially linens or worn clothing that smells like you! That will help a lot. I'd also consider Sentry pheromone collars. I've used them in the past and they really chill most cats out - it's like they're in a little happy bubble (the collars mimic the pheromone that mother cats give off when washing and comforting their infant kittens).

I feel the same way every time we go out of town. Luckily we found an amazing pet sitter who comes in to do overnights for us and the dogs love her. It's so stressful leading up to our trip but once we're there we can enjoy ourselves. They'll be absolutely fine with your mom!

Omg I feel the exact same way Smiley cry I have had to leave previous pets while away on vacation but never my current cat and she is SO clingy to me! My friend is going to spend a lot of time over my place and my retired neighbor who loves my cat will be there a lot too so I know she is going to get lots of attention and will be well taken care of but the guilt is REAL.

I have this problem with our two cats! Leaving them with your mom is definitely a good peace of mind, that way they kind of understand who this person is. Of course they won’t really know you’re coming back until you actually do so not much you can do about that. I feel a lot better knowing that they are comfortable enough with my parents to not freak much.

I have felt the same way before! We left our dog at home for 9 days for a trip last year and had a trusted friend stay there with him. He was a little mopey for the first day or two but then he adjusted. This time we're leaving him at my parents house for two weeks and we feel bad but we know he'll be okay. He has stayed there several times before, and a few days without us there. For the first week, the same trusted friend will be there since my parents are going out of town right after our wedding too. The second week, my parents will be back at home with him.

We have also left him for a short weekend and had a friend check in on him and feed him and let him outside. Maybe it's different with a dog than a cat, but I think he's just so excited once we're home that he gets over it pretty quickly. He does get anxious whenever we take out the suitcases though.

I hear ya. They will still love you when you get back! Of course they are cats though, they might give you some 'tude! lol.

One of my dogs take his guarding duties a little too seriously and is unfortunately selective of what humans he accepts if I'm not there lol. So it's pretty much impossible for us to get a babysitter. Looks like all our future vacations have to be dog friendly! lol
