Feeling disheartened

Christine, on June 14, 2021 at 8:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
I just need to vent a bit because nothing seems to be going right 🙁

So my fiancĂ© and I have been together for 7 years, we got engaged in 2019, and planned our wedding for Aug 2020. We both have big Irish families, so big weddings are important to them and us. Sometimes it’s the only time everyone sees each other especially if people are really spread out which is the case with our families.
Then the world shuts down, I can’t leave my apartment for months because I’m immunosuppressed from my MS medication and we reschedule the wedding for Aug 2021. On a bike ride in Sept 2020 I badly break my leg and have to have surgery to repair it. It takes 3 months before I can walk and we decide to push the wedding again to Oct 2021 to give people more time to get the vaccine. I continue having pain in my leg and can’t walk without a cane. I switch Drs and find out the fracture never healed, they have no idea why, and I have to have another more invasive surgery to repair it. Did the surgery 6 weeks ago, I’m healing, and hoping things are finally looking up. Just to find out important family members can’t come to the wedding because of a combination of things.
Now we have to decide if we go forward with the wedding without these family members or if try to move it again (if our vendors will even let us do that again đŸ€·â€â™€ïž). I know none of this is the end of the world and there’s people dealing with much worse then this. I’m just so disheartened by it all and afraid I’ll have a whole bunch of negative feelings associated with something that’s suppose to be about celebration. Thanks for listening ❀

Hi Christine! Girl you have been through SO much!! I’m impressed by your strength and believe me, your strength will return. There were many people we would have loved to been at ours, but if we had waited for each one to be available, honestly we would never have gotten married! I feel you, my husband and I had a ton of set backs in our wedding planning. Ceremony site fell through 10 days before our wedding, honeymoon cancelled, several guests couldn’t make it. Absolutely devastated. But you know what? I had the wedding of my dreams!! No one was more surprised then us at how well it went!! Those who came were our very closest and filled my heart more than I ever expected.

Feel free to have a good cry (very therapeutic). Sometimes you just need time to let it out and put the planning down for a few days. Keep going and keep October - it’s a beautiful month ❀ All the best to you and hope your leg continues to heal ❀

COVID brides have had a rough enough time as is and you've had even more happen. I am so sorry you've been going through this! If it were me, I would probably still keep the date. However, if the people that can't go are super important to you that you can't imagine your day without them and you can easily move it, then go for it. I personally think you'd feel much better if you finally had your special day and didn't have to worry about postponing it again. Good luck!
