Feeling guilty

Meghan, on April 11, 2021 at 8:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
I know being apart of a wedding can quickly add up, especially being a MOH/bridesmaid. I have my 3 sisters and 2 cousins apart of my bridal party. I know they’re all super excited and money isn’t an issue, but I feel guilty having them spend money when they could probably use it for something else. I know I’m probably overthinking it and my sisters even offered to pay for my hair to be done as a gift and such. My family loves to throw parties and go over the top with them, where I kinda look to have fun but also how to save. They’re also super excited to plan a bachelorette getaway, especially since it’s so hard for all of us to get together now with our scheduled. I just can’t help but feel like I’m having them spend their hard earned money on a day. Has anyone else ever felt this way? How do you work on not feeling guilty?

Hi Meghan! Oh yes I definitely felt guilty!! It’s kind of you to be conscious of this and it sounds like you’re not picking the most expensive things and such, which is very thoughtful. I did my best in keeping costs down and covered what I could (ex: gave David’s Bridal gift cards towards their dresses, let them pick style). Just remember, you would do the same for them and they know it ❤️ Sounds like you have a good group and planning the getaway is a positive event during these times they are looking forward to ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much. You’re so right. Needed to read this. Yeah I let them pick out their dresses and we even changed the color I originally wanted because we all ended up liking a new color lol (went from champagne to wine). They def are a great group♥️. Thank you again for this reminder! 🤗

Oh, I felt so guilty! We're all in the arts and tend to have very tight budgets, so I kept double checking that the dress wasn't too expensive, forwarding coupons I got, and saying I was happy with low-key things.

However, my BP remain some of my closest friends, so they were determined to make things wonderful for me. Both DH and I had to take a deep breath and remember they were celebrating us because they love us. When we walked into our shower, I nearly cried - they had taken a rehearsal space and just DECKED it out with my favorite nerd (Harry Potter), one of my BMs made a MASSIVE themed cake (I legit had to take it to work to help eat the leftovers!), that kind of thing. I did have to put my foot down about a get-away bachelorette... not because I didn't want it, but because I couldn't take the time off work. (MY budget wouldn't let me go! Drat!)

Your friends know you. As long as they know what you can afford to take off of work, let them celebrate you.

Thank you so much! I sent them the makeup options and they were like wow these prices are amazing so that made me feel better. Really trying to keep it affordable without jeopardizing the quality. I’ve been trying to send coupons too like you said and yeah I just have to remember that it’s a time to celebrate. One day it’ll be my turn to do the same for them! Thank you so much and a HARRY POTTER theme sounds awesomeeeeeeee!
