Feeling indifferent about wedding.

Mia, on April 30, 2019 at 12:41 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 16
A lot has happened the past year. We are 3 weeks away from getting married. I am not happy or excited. Our wedding is 5/25 and the first anniversary of my 10 yr old nephew's death is 5/31. It's been a hard year. Our youngest child turns 6 mo old on 5/6 and I'm struggling with my depression deeply. Until we're married I have no insurance to get medications so I'm trying my best right now. I for sure want to be married. I'm just struggling. Any advice?

Yes and he's very supportive. He understands it's been a tough year for all of us. I'm just hoping once our wedding day arrives the excitement will kick in. Thank you.

Don't forget simple self care things for yourself. Eating healthy, going for walks, drinking lots of water, things that we often overlook in the throws of depression. Hugs 💞

I'm so sorry for your loss. Have you tried finding a grief support group in your area? I know that there is no easy fix to depression and grief, but I have found in the past that yoga has helped me. Please talk to those closest to you about how you are feeling.

Could you have a small legal ceremony sooner to get you on the health insurance sooner?

We could have gotten married when we got our marriage license but we both chose the wedding. I don't think it would make much of a difference with the insurance.

Thank you. I've mostly just reached out to my family and close friends. I've always struggled with depression and this last pregnancy was really tough, especially losing my nephew. I was on antidepressants and ran out about a month ago. They were helping some but with me not having insurance bc now I'm a sahm again I don't really have access to a dr I can afford. I usually journal and it helps tremendously but lately I've just lost interest.

Sorry you’re going through this. If you abruptly stopped taking antidepressants you might be going through a withdrawal, which is tough. I have a close friend whose depression got significantly worse for a month or so, after stopping medication. Add to that new baby, family loss & stress of wedding planning (even though it’s a positive experience) & no wonder you’re having a hard time.
My advice is to see a doctor as soon as possible. And in the meantime, take care of yourself by eating healthy & exercising. Many studies show that exercise is excellent for anxiety & depression. I don’t know if this is relevant for you at all, but if you’re on hormonal birth control this can further worsen your depression symptoms.
Feel better soon! I’m sure once wedding day comes you’ll experience a lot of positive emotions.

I'm sorry Mia. Maybe since you have stopped taking anti depressants, you could make sure you are getting all the vitamins you need. I don't know exactly what you should take, but there may be research that suggests a specific vitamin/s can help with withdrawal from antidepressants.

Mia.. could you contact the drug manufacturer? Often they have samples they give to drs office (if you can find one that is inexpensive) or cards that deeply discount the medication.

Mia, I agree with Jessica. Contact the drug manufacturer and let them know what is going on. You can a lot of times get samples from a local doctors office for free until you have the insurance you need. My heart goes out to you. I lost a childhood friend in college in a very tragic car accident and understand how deeply the loss of someone especially young can be. Best wishes to you.

I also agree with pp to get back on meds ASAP! Have you tried 5HTP? Is otc and helps with depression.
I am so sorry for your loss and all that you’re dealing with. Weddings are stressful enough. Keep your focus on self care and remember the day is about love with your FH and surrounded by loved ones.

Thank you all very much. Yesterday was a bad day I guess. FH has been great through everything and he knows I want to marry him and have reached a rough patch. I will be checking in to the manufacturer to see if they can do anything. I can not currently afford a dr without insurance. I looked in to OTC supplements but cannot take anything as my baby is exclusively breastfed. I'm having a much better day. Again, thank you all!
