Feeling invisible and insignificant when dealing with vendors

Corinne, on March 23, 2022 at 10:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 27
Hello WW community,

I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing less-than-inspiring interactions with their wedding vendors. I am getting the feeling that my vendors are so busy that my business is not important to them. I get that they have a lot going on, but I’m spending a lot of money and I feel like I’m being brushed off constantly.
Just as an example, the company that I am renting tables, chairs, etc. from also does florals. I thought I’d make things easier by using them for my flowers. My fiancé and I met with the florist over two months ago. He said he would send me a proposal within two weeks and I still have nothing. I have sent multiple follow-up emails, only to be brushed off with “Oh sorry, he’s been really busy with back-to-back weddings”. I don’t think this is really an acceptable excuse to keep me waiting on a simple quote for over two months. It’s really stressing me out because I am now two months out from my wedding, I have no confirmation that I will even be getting flowers, and every other florist in town is already booked by now. I have been nothing but patient and understanding with them. I wouldn’t dare tell them how awful their customer service has been because I don’t want to screwed. But, I’m just really bothered by the whole thing. My fiancé and I can’t even afford a honeymoon and this vendor (that I’ve already paid a deposit to for the rentals) is acting like my money is worthless.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading my rant. I hope no one else is being put down and brushed off in their wedding planning like I am.

Also, just to clarify, I am NOT a timid person and I have zero fear of confrontation when my expectations are not being met. I am trying so hard to let them know that I refuse to be ignored while also staying tactful and polite so I don’t end up without flowers on my wedding day.

I couldn’t find a florist I clicked with. The last one was saying what I wanted was to expensive for me over and over again. Which was 25 hydrangeas and 50 roses. Which I’ve asked to purchase a couple to take home. Hydrangeas we’re 3 dollars each and roses 4. So they thought I couldn’t afford 275 worth of flowers. I went online to fiftyflowers and purchased them that way. We will be doing are own flowers. My sister in law had issues with her florist as well. Im sorry your having to deal with this but it’s better you do it yourself if you can’t find a good vendor for it. Cause you want your money to be put to good used and cared for. At least that’s what I believe in. I wish you the best of luck. 😊

I’m so sorry to hear that happened, Mayumi. It’s so frustrating when people try to tell you what you can or can’t afford. It sounds like you found a great solution though. I’ll look into the option of doing my own flowers, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time. I’m working on my physics degree and have final exams a week before the wedding. I was really hoping to find vendors I could count on to do what I’m paying them to do.

Fiftyflowers does a lot of premade, so all you have to worry about is getting it to the venue. They even do centerpieces and you can add on vases for them if I remember correctly. 😊

I’m sorry this happened to you! I haven’t had any problems with any of my vendors. I didn’t pick anybody that I didn’t click with or gave me the vibe that they wouldn’t be responsive if I needed something. Part of my decision in booking any vendor was their initial responsiveness in my interest to use them. I was actually just emailing with my photographer the other day and over the course of one day we emailed back and forth multiple times to sort out something out I wanted and I follow him online so I know he’s very busy . Maybe I’ve gotten lucky so far with my vendors. I hope things start to look up!

Hi Taylor! I fully admit there were red flags as far as responsiveness from this vendor from the get-go. I probably should not have hired them at all. Unfortunately though, every florist I’ve reached out to has been equally unresponsive or already booked! I must have reached out to five different florists that just never even bothered to respond at all.

That sucks! I’m doing all of our flowers as I’m not doing anything real so I haven’t had to worry about a florist at all. I’m sorry that’s happening!

Hi Corinne. I had trouble with finding a reliable florist too. One blew me off and the other sent a quote almost 2 months afterwards. I travelled a bit out of the venue area to find one. This florist is very responsive and has exceptional work. She’s 15 mins away and able to deliver. Try a couple in the vicinity even if they are 30 mins away.

I've had a similar-ish experience with a vendor. I just took it as this is not the vendor for me🤣

Thanks for the suggestion, Shannon! I’ve tried expanding my search and I think I may have found someone. They were really sweet and helpful on the phone, so fingers crossed they will be able to work with me.

That’s definitely the right response! I really don’t want to work with this vendor anymore, so hopefully I can find someone else.

Oooh yes, I've had that experience. I had some ghost entirely, others tell me that my budget was too small and the flowers I like are too expensive for me. However, I eventually found a florist, after talking to maaany, that actually seemed to value my time, my vision, and legitimately made me feel heard.

However, my tales won't help you in your current circumstance - since you're so close to your date, I'd see if there are any florists who have pick-orders options OR, I saw a florist that had "micro wedding" packages, that came in varying levels, and they were very affordable. The idea is that they would be organized entirely over email, so it would reduce the amount of capital they spent on it, but it would still get you your flowers for a good price.

What region are you in? because if you're near me, I'd recommend my florist.

I’m in Sarasota, FL. I met up with a friend yesterday who sent out an SOS to several people she thought might know of a florist. They all recommended the same place (that I hadn’t heard of before) so I called them today. They seemed to have much better customer service and I was able to schedule a full consultation for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! I absolutely love the florists I work with as a wedding planner, I used one of my close florist friends for my wedding and he went above and beyond and even made us cute little souvenirs that looked like our bouquet and hand painted all our flowers without us even asking to match the exact ones I found on Pinterest. I wish you were having a better experience!! What area is your wedding in and how big is your budget for the florals? I might know someone that could help you out. Also, it’s so sad you won’t be having a honeymoon, I feel like it’s super important to have time with your spouse so you don’t just feel shoved back into normal life after a special day. Do you not have any budget for it? I could probably send you ideas for a pretty cool one for under 2k at most

I'm sorry to hear that. I found a photographer I loved (quality and personality) and I have gone with his recommendations for flowers and found a venue on my own. So far everyone has at least acted like they're so happy to work with me. If I were you I would find a new vendor if you have time. They should be trying to win you over not the other way around.

    Hi Edan,

I’m so glad to hear you had such a wonderful experience with your florist! I’m really hoping I’ll still be able to find someone who is more pleasant to work with. I’m in Sarasota, FL and I can spend at most $1500 on flowers. It’s not a lot, but we’re having a small wedding (50 guests) and no bridal party so we don’t need much.
As far as the honeymoon, we have no budget for it at the moment. I’m a full-time student and my FH is self-employed so our income is inconsistent. He’s been working on a project that may lead to a big payout before the wedding, but there’s no guarantee. If you have any ideas for a budget honeymoon, I would love to hear them 🙂

That sounds hopeful! I really really hope it works out, and you walk away with feeling like they listened (and that they send information quickly afterward). I am nowhere near Florida, so mine wouldn't be helpful, but definitely keep us updated! Smiley smile
