Feeling isolated

Hi everyone,
I feel discouraged and alone. My fiance and I aren't following the "rules" set by the wedding industry. I am a frugal budget bride trying to do things the old fashioned way. I am beginning to feel extremely discouraged and drained because it seems impossible to have that truly old fashioned simple wedding that we want per the industry. I keep encountering road block after road block. Not sure if I should throw in the tow and elope.

What kind of food are you talking about? How much? How long are you planning on having it sit out? Where are your guests sitting for the ceremony? For the reception?

If you don't have a lot of decor (guestbook table, uplighting, wall or ceiling decor), you may be ok. Just give yourself extra time and work out your action plan ahead of time because it goes by FAST.

The photographer obviously doesn't have all of the details of your wedding -- it's not like they can see inside your head. They simply provided a mock schedule, and you're 100% free to follow it or not. My fiance and I are not doing a first-look, for example, and the photographer is fine with that. The reason they ask that is to make sure if you did want one you have enough time in your day to do so. They're asking these questions to make sure that you're purchasing enough of their time so they can fully cover your event. They're not dictating what you do -- you're paying them, so you're the boss! Smiley smile

You don't HAVE to do anything. But if you ask for things like mock schedules, be prepared that the vendors are basing these off of the typical wedding schedule. They're trying to work with you, not tell you what to do.

Also, MOB So Cal has some great point about set-up. While setting-up a few tables won't take too long, logistics like parking, when you're actually allowed in the venue, etc. are some things to consider.

Probably cake and punch with light snacks. Ceremony and reception are in the same location.

Will the tables and chairs for the guests be already set up?

If it's just 2 tables, 2 table cloths, cake, and snacks- I don't see it taking a long time. The stuff that might be more lengthy would be decor and audio setup. If that's not applicable, then you're probably fine. Maybe you can do a mock run and time yourself. Make sure to include travel time.

You can do this! Trust me, I understand how you feel. I'm diy-ing a lot instead of just buying things. I refused to buy an expensive dress that I will only wear once, etc.

How so? Can you be more specific? Where there’s a will, there’s a way! We can help!

Even though it doesn’t seem like a lot of work I’d still get someone to help. You have to load whatever you need into the vehicle in the first place and then unload it again.
The photographer may not understand your needs. And if he won’t listen, move on.
I don’t need to pay someone to photograph me getting hair and makeup done. I don’t need to see another picture of a wedding dress hanging from a tree or hung on the closet door or my shoes on a pedestal. That’s great for those who want these things, but I’d rather spend the money to have more guests.
