Hi! I'm new to wedding wire this is my first post. Today I'm going wedding dress shopping and i'm dreading it. I'm normally a size 10-12 in dresses and I know that bridal dresses run much larger so they will have nothing my size and I'll feel so fat. Should I just put it off until I can lose weight?...

Yes, dress sizes can be deceiving until you try them on. Sadly, I only had a size 10 in my dress when I was pretty sure I was in between a regular 12-14. I ordered a 12 determined to lose weight and gained more by the time in came in bc I had no motivation. When I tried on, I got it! Im at my half way point of what I think my goal weight should be. I needed to lose inches, toning up too. So Im still going and thankfully she said she they can take it out an inch. I know it can make you feel terrible. I got comnents and tried not to cry. If you really want to, lose a little and then go. You'll find something great either way though. Pay attention to the fit and how it makes you feel.

I went in knowing that my "size" would be bigger than what I am used to. I just focused on the silhouette of the dresses and what looks I liked best on me.

Don't worry about the size. i wear an 18, my dress is a 20. i could honestly care less. in the beginning i was kind of on the whole "i'm gonna drop so much weight" and it really began to stress me out. FH took me aside, kissed me, and told me that it didn't matter to him if i wore a size 40...because i would always be beautiful to him. after that, i stopped worrying. i lost ten pounds after stopping stressing out. my dress fits perfectly and i'm beautiful in it. who cares what the number is! just enjoy this time.

I am a 10/12 but got a size 14 wedding dress. I carry all my weight in my hips and thighs so the dress fit perfectly on the bottom half but I will have to have the sides taken in. I'm still trying to lose weight. Lost 30 before I bought a dress and now tryin for 10-15 more before first fittin in January. You will be fine and there will be plenty for you to try on.

Amber, you will be a beautiful bride no matter what size you are!

Definitely start dress shopping so you can try on styles to see what you like and what you don't like. Just enjoy the experience and if you are unhappy with your weight, then just use it as motivation for a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise.

You absolutely should go dress shopping now! I am normally a 12-14 in dresses, and I went shopping and found my dress! It is a size 14. I am currently dieting and exercising to lose weight, but I figure if it fits me right now and looks good... it can only look better IF I lose some weight. Sounds like you are a little down. You should go dress shopping. It will lift your spirits. Smiley smile

I felt the same way when I went! I am the same size as you. The dresses are hard for everyone to get into, but it's part of it. That being said, the dresses (most of them) are made to be super flattering. I don't think finding a dress will be hard, but deciding which one you want to go with will be!

Yep, spanx is a godsend! But if your wedding is outside in the heat, it can get pretty stuffy, so keep that in mind when you buy some. I'm probably going to buy some of the light stuff from Kohls. Strong enough to smooth me out, but nothing too tight or suffocating.

Where are you located at? If you are feeling fat (no one has the right to tell you how you feel - so if you do, you do) there are sometimes dress shops that specialize in plus size dresses. Ours in Minneapolis is called Luxe, I don't know if they have a branch in your area. I can relate to how you feel, but stay positive, dress shopping can be a blast no matter what size you are!
