Fence Decor... need advice

Chrissy, on August 4, 2015 at 9:40 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

My wedding will be taking place in my backyard. There's a chain link fence that runs across the back of the property which has a park on the other side. Looks like they will be having a kids football game that day, which I don't mind since the field is on the other side of the park. Sometimes the kids waiting for the next game will be right on the other side of the fence warming up or hanging out. Is there something I can buy that will look nice to cover the fence and be used as a backdrop? I would make something but I don't have time for any more DIY projects.

How long is the section of fencing that you want to cover?

I just figured it would be nice to have a barrier to make it look pretty in the background instead of a chain link fence with people on the other side. Its pretty long. Like 80 feet.

ETA: the head table will have our backs to the fence

I would say tulle, or some drapey silky material, or even some of that sequin covered material. Do you have colors/a theme already?

Yeah, i was thinking like Laura--- some sort of fabric?? But I can't picture it in my own head to describe it to you... If it doesn't need to be completely covered... you could hang picture frames of family to give it a personal feel! Or mix in some hanging mason jars with flowers?

Burlap-- comes in a bunch of colors... for 3.99 a yard... you would need like 27 yards so it could get expensive.

White tulle-- not as much coverage... but a dollar cheaper per yard

Obviously these probably aren't the best prices... but just to give you a jumping off point.

Our colors are green and purple. There isn't really a theme. I can order another spool of tulle and see how it will look. My mom said we could put the walls up on one side of the tent but I'm worried it will cut airflow if its warm that day.

If I did green tulle do you think it would be too much? The tent is white and the tablecloths and chairs are white. There are table runners. Is there such a thing as too much white at a wedding?

I don't think there's too much white! You could always place some green or purple ribbons running across the top to hold up the drape. I'm having a hard time picturing green tulle that doesn't look like a witch's costume haha Smiley smile

How close to the fence will the tent be? Is it right next to the tent? Or is there some space? If there's space, I honestly wouldn't worry about it at this point. It's going to be pretty expensive anything you do from tulle to burlap.

The ribbons scare me because there was a thread where a girl tried something like that and it looked like toilet paper. I wouldn't be able to get the lights Smiley sad

ETA: the tent is right next to the fence.

Is it possible to move the head table/tent so it is not right next to the fence?

What about the "fencing" they use around construction sites? It must be fairly inexpensive, but is only 2-3' tall (you might need 2 levels of it). I've seen black, maybe green, even some screen printed with palm trees (but that would probably be more expensive).

Hey Chrissy, totally unrelated to this, but I wasn't sure where else to ask. Did you get the package I sent from your amazon registry? It said it was left in the mailbox, so I wanted to make sure that it didn't get stolen.

Honestly, I would just put up one side of the tent wall. One tent wall is not going to stop a breeze as you have three other open sides to get a cross breeze, and it solves all your problems without having to spend even more money. Anything you cover the fence with will still show the ball fields and people next to the short chain link fence.
