My fiance's friend and bestman is flying in for our wedding. My fiance told me that even after the wedding the friend will be staying a few days with us. This bugs me because it is the very start and first days of our marriage, and we'll never get those days back, so I definitely don't want to spend them sharing my time with someone else. With that said, I really don't want his friend to be staying with us right after the wedding. My fiance doesn't agree with me. Am I overreacting?

I don’t think you’re overreacting at all. That’s basically your honeymoon time. I think it’s common courtesy for friends and family to give a newly married couple their “newly wed time” and privacy. My fiancé and I are already planning to be very adamant about this as we plan to start ttc 3 months after the wedding so the few months after the wedding are very special to us to just be together as a new married couple and have our private time.

So i had a similar problem. His sister did not end up having the money to spend on a room, which I understand because she was by herself and did not feel the need to spend $200+ on a room for just her. She asked to say with us, which i was a little bothered, but my mom (who was adjoined) had an extra bed and we offered for her to stay in the room. At first, I was look oh its perfect everyone is close by and I don't have to worry about hunting people down. As I look back and even during the few days were out there, I was a little disappointed I was unable to get "private" with my new husband. It probably would be best to figure out separate arrangements for him to stay or see if there is a way he can remain separate.

Something else to consider besides the friend crashing your romantic time together as newlyweds, is that you two are going to be friggin exhausted after having a wedding, and if you're hosting a rehearsal dinner the night before and a brunch the morning after, that's a lot of activities in a weekend plus a lot of time with other people. As an introvert, I dread too much people time, I need some days alone, and having someone crash at my place, after my wedding of all events, would be extremely irritating to me.
