Figured this might amuse a few people

Katie, on July 31, 2023 at 12:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

So our wedding is in about 2 months, and my fiance had a conversation with his parents yesterday where they let him know that they think it's ridiculous we are planning anything so far out form the wedding and that we should just do it all at the last minute.

I say the more time in advance the better! I've even had some vendors literally say, "wow you guys are doing this really far in advance!!!" - as if it's a bad thing or weird? I say less to worry about the closer everything approaches.

Oh goodness! If only you could wake up few days before and plan it. I wouldn't even respond to that just smile and move the conversation along . Hope you got a chuckle out of it at least!

It amused me, but he's so frustrated with them. I'm just reassuring him that my family has everything under control, and we'll make sure there are things for his parents to be involved in at the last minute so they don't feel left out.

Absolutely, the less I have left to do the better. By the time we're a month out I'd like to have the only thing left to do be gathering RSVP's and doing the seating chart, and getting the marriage license.

I think weddings must have been A LOT easier to plan for our parents' generations, because my mom also thought we were being ridiculous when we started planning over a year out. For the longest time I thought my mom wasn't interested in the wedding or being a part of the planning; but it turns out she just thought more would be happening in the last couple months! I don't think they understand how competitive the wedding industry is nowadays. If you don't lock in your venue and vendors like a year out, there's a good chance you won't be getting the ones you prefer!

That's fair. My parents only took 2.5 months to plan their wedding in the 80's. But my mom understands that things are very different now and has been very enthusiastic about the wedding and helping with everything for the last year and a half.

Lol my future in-laws were shocked when we visited them this past weekend and mentioned that the wedding is five weeks away. Luckily they’re retired and don’t get out much, so if they don’t start getting things together and packing until the day before they leave, they won’t be that stressed.

Hahaha that's good for them at least, I'm guessing they're not asking to be involved in much.

They are just clueless. Try to not hold it against them. Indeed, weddings used to be simple and just held in the church with refreshments afterward— cake, mints, punch and nuts. Ignorance is bliss…. Just do what you have to do and ignore their comments and advice.

My grandmother planned my parents' wedding though from start to finish in less than a month so while far from ideal it's not outside of the realm of possibility. Keep in mind that was Sacramento in the late 80's.

I think you should do the wedding the way you want it, not your husband's parents
