Filing civil litigation against venue

Hello!

We're supposed to be getting married in Aug 2020 (NJ). I've read some brides here who's venues will not let them cancel due to Murphy opening up things slowly. We are on the same boat. It is totally not fair to hold us to our date in Aug to a contract that can not be fulfilled due to COVID. We did not pay all this money to have a wedding at a capacity (whatever that may be), only outdoor wedding, wear masks, social dis, etc. Also, if you have guests traveling out of state, they must be quarantined for 14 days according to Murphy, as tri-state had the highest level of COVID.

Not to mention, during quarantine everything was closed and we could not prepare for our August wedding properly.

Unfortunately at our venue, there is no weekend dates available 2021, so we simply want out.

It is very sad we have to go this route to finding a lawyer to get all of our money back.

If you already have found a reputable lawyer to represent you, please let me know!

I'm so sorry Sarah, I know this is a really tough time for everyone with 2020 wedding celebrations. Smiley heart

What does your contract say about cancellation policies? Unfortunately as long as the venue is able to uphold their end of the contract in terms of services provided, it will very difficult to try to file legal charges against them. I'd re-read your contract to see what's non-refundable and what's not and try to make a decision from there!
