Filled Room Block!

Angerra, on February 13, 2019 at 5:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi All!
I know there's been some questions on room blocks. I set up room blocks at 3 different hotels with different price points. 2 were courtesy blocks so we will not be responsible for any unbooked rooms. The other, we are responsible for booking 80% of the total amount of rooms. I was a little nervous about filling it. However, it's right across the street from our venue so I was sure most guests would want to stay there. I only reserved 20 rooms to be on the safe side.

One of my coworkers just tried to book her room and received an error message that the rate is no longer available.
Our block is already sold out with a little under 6 months left to go!

Long story short, as long as your hotel is in a prime location, don't be afraid of the hotels with an attrition fee! Reserve a small amount of rooms to begin with and add more if the hotel has availability.

This excited me to know that our guests are arranging their accommodations! Smiley laugh

I'm glad you did 3 blocks, what a great idea! Our wedding is in July, and we already have 24 rooms booked and our invites haven't even gone out yet! We have a back up block just in case.

The hotel information is listed on our website and we put the link for the website on our save the date; which was sent out in October.
Also word of mouth. Anyone in our wedding party who is coming from out of town, we gave them the info before anyone else so they can book their rooms.

I didn't want to just offer 1 hotel and it possibly be out of budget for some of our guests; especially if they're staying the entire weekend.
Our invitations won't be going out until May so I'll definitely need to add more rooms. How many did you block off?

I had to tell mines. My wedding is considered a holiday weekend (labor day) so many of my guests were already traveling, thinking about traveling, or will travel since there's no school and possibly no work that Monday after the wedding

Definitely a good idea! It makes it so easy on your out of town guests. Even your local guests may want to get a hotel room if they live a little ways away and don't want to worry about drinking and driving.
We're having open bar all night so I want to make sure our guests our safe and have somewhere close to stay.

Our first one (cheaper, $80 a night) has 10 rooms and our second (nicer, $120 a night, where we are staying) started with 15! The hotel let us add 5 at a time at the same rate as our block filled, as long as the hotel had room.
