Filling up space

Sarah, on February 24, 2022 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 7 6
Hello! We have a LARGE venue, but only ~100 guests. I’m wondering if anyone had the same type of thing? Any way that you set up tables, decor, added things, etc. to make it not feel “empty”? Silly thing to think about, i know!

We had something similar for our local reception. Group things closer together as opposed to spreading things out (choose the venue center or a side). Our reception was at a HUGE outdoor winery, and with only 50 guests we put the band stage and dance floor close to the vineyards and the cocktail and dining round tables in front of that. So the actual winery (with bar and restrooms) was much further away but our reception felt intimate.

We actually toured a venue that could accommodate 300 but we were only going to be inviting about 100. They had quite a few suggestions for how we could arrange the space to account for the smaller guest count - one included splitting the inside area in half with the ceremony space set up at one end and the reception space at the other. They had more than enough chairs to allow for that. Maybe ask your venue what other couples have done if they had smaller guest counts?

We added a mingling area for guests to gather with their drinks after dinner—high boy tables. We also had several large palm plants to fill in space.

We brought in 2 bars into the reception space and sat 6-8 persons per 60" rounds. My guestlist dropped during Delta, and persons were still more comfortable with distance while dining and on the dancefloor.
