I was in the same situation recently: me and my boyfriend lost jobs and it was stressful, but I don't even know what to recommend to you. Please, don't give up no matter what, I'm sure you'll find the well-paid job soon.

I’m so sorry you lost your job. I completely empathize with you. Last year end of January I got the call that I lost my full time job. My husband got the same call a week later from his job that they were dissolving his position because remote work didn’t need a receptionist. Luckily I was moved to part time and my husband was given 6 weeks before being officially terminated. Our wedding was last June just 5 months from when we got the calls. We were stressed. Immediately we went to unemployment and used some of our 3rd stimulus checks to pay of the remainder balance for our wedding. It was definitely a stressful time we still had bills, rent, car insurance, and other wedding related items and expenses to pay for. But we had been saving for our wedding since December 2019 when we got engaged and had the funds in a separate account just for the wedding.
I know it probably doesn’t seem like it now but you will find a way through this. I was all but defeated ready to throw in the towel but once I moved past the anger and sadness of our situation I sat down and created a new financial plan for us with our current unemployment money and the part time paycheck I was bringing in and found a way for us to get by.

We got married in August. Half of the time we were engaged we weren't even sure we would be able to have guests or at least our most important ones. You will get through this.

Ugh, I lost my job while wedding planning. Landed one six weeks later but at 1/3 the pay. 😭 Is everything booked or can you cut back (guest list, cheaper or less decor, perhaps a brunch wedding stead of dinner, don’t get a photo booth, etc). You WILL get through this but cutting back if possible can help reduce your stress.

Because of the pandemic, there are a ton of jobs that let you work from home now, which is awesome. Look on Indeed filtered for "remote". My friend just landed a data entry job making good money and its super easy. (Not sure what your field or path is). Long story short, this too shall pass Smiley smile If your wedding vision is super important not to change, maybe consider postponing a few months. If your vision is flexible, cut back anywhere you can and just remember at the end of the day, you'll be married to the LOYL Smiley smile

I can't even begin to imagine your pain and stress during this time. I can only empathize from being jobless for the better part of a year.

If you haven't already, sit down with a financial advisor. Find out your credit scores (Transunion, Equifax, and Experian). See if you can apply for a consolidation loan that way you aren't spreading out payments, and can instead do one payment and keep the amount down.

    Some words of caution:

If you have to do a "hard inquiry" to apply for a credit card or seeing how much you can have for a loan, it will affect your score negatively (in the immediate future). Don't apply for too many cards or too many loans. Sit down with the advisor first.

Loans may require collateral in the forms of assets such as cars, a home, etc. Others may ask for a co-signer. Try to look for a transfer of debt credit card with a 0% APR (annual percentage rating) instead for anywhere from 12-16 months. Be prepared to pay a transfer fee anywhere from $100-$300ish (ball park) to have your debt transferred onto a card.

See how much APR your cards are charging you now. Ask your advisor if they think you can ask the card companies or banks to lower your APR.

    I hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Same happened to us as well, we ended up postponing the wedding. The venue and vendors understood, I did lose out on some deposits with the a few vendors but nothing major. In the end we're doing a planned elopement with family and close friends.

See what you and your partner can do first. Whether that's cutting out an an additional photographer or photo booth, going to a cheaper venue/vendor or even postponing.

There are websites like upwork where you can get some easy side gigs and a lot are remote! try that.

I’m sorry and I’m hoping you get a job soon! We’re blessed in that our parents are helping with a lot of the wedding and I honestly don’t know what we would do if they weren’t. I’m stressed enough as it is since my fiancé’s house isn’t even done (he’s remodeling his great grandmother’s old house). My fiancĂ© started a commission job right after we got engaged so money has been tight. Hoping he will start making money from it soon! đŸ€žđŸŒ

Yea pretty much this whole wedding has been all me paying for it.. My fiance helped me get a loan to pay for venue but I'm paying the loan, I also payed for my dresses, all wardrobe for him and our 4 kids, decore, food and bartender, car rental, and so on... Only help ive gotten so far is my dad stepped in and payed for my wedding cake... Witch was a blessing I'm relying on my income tax to finish paying for everything I'm praying it covers it

I’m so sorry! If my fiancĂ© and I had to pay for it ourselves, we would definitely have opted for an elopement! As it is, it’s still a very small backyard wedding because that matches what we want. I would try to cut corners and diy as much as possible. Ultimately it’s a union between two people and that’s what matters most. Although it is a very important day, it still isn’t worth the financial stress that it can cause months in advance in my opinion. Make sure the wedding is about what you two want and not to entertain guests or have the “picture perfect” wedding. I hope it turns out to be a beautiful day no matter what 😊

I’m sorry to hear! I feel the financial stress. We’ll be taking out a loan for what we can’t come up with the money for and will be using any gift money to help pay that off
