Finding a venue

Kasey, on September 29, 2020 at 9:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
I'm having a difficult time finding a venue for my wedding ceremony. My fiancé and I have been going back and forth between indoor vs. outdoor because our wedding date is in October, and we live in Ohio which means the weather can turn pretty easily.

I want to run through the leaves on my wedding day and love the smells of fall in the air. He wants to stay dry and warm, which is fair.
I wanted to go for a compromise and maybe do a greenhouse wedding, but the greenhouses I'm finding that rent out space for events are over an hour away. On top of that I'm not sure a greenhouse would provide the fall vide we both wanted when we chose 0ur wedding date.
So the solution would be to find somewhere with big windows, or just a lot of them to see out to the fall weather, right? Only I'm having one heck of a time finding places like that.
Any suggestions or pointers when doing my research to find what I'm looking for?

If you’re going for a rustic Fall vibe, there is always the posh barn option. That way you can get married outside and have the reception in the barn; and if the weather turns out wet or too cold, you could always move the ceremony into the barn.

Not sure where you are in ohio but I recommend a conservatory/botanical garden. There's usually tiny wedding options there as well

Try the parks dept. Many of them have venues for rent with outdoor options.

With Covid still a possibility through 2021 I think anywhere that has an outdoor option is your best bet.

Check hotel ballrooms or even hotels that have an outside area as well.

You can tentatively find an outdoor option (that has an indoor space if the weather is bad). That's what we did. We both love the outdoors but as a contingency plan we found a venue that had an indoor space as well just in case of rain/bad weather. Alternatively, if the weather ends up being cold, a lot of outdoor venues allow you to rent heaters. And if it rains, you can find places that will rent you a tent. I've even seen all clear tents (although I hear those can be pretty pricey).

I would start looking for a venue asap. I decided on my venue over a year ago, and my wedding is this upcoming November. I actually found it here on wedding wire. The neat thing about my venue is that it can hold either an indoor or outdoor ceremony, and has big windows, and it's on a lake. My advice to you is to find a location that can do both, tour it with your FH, and see what y'all think. I viewed 4 venues in total, so don't feel pressured to find the perfect one right off the bat.

I didn't realize you could rent a clear tent; that would a pretty good weather safeguard. My ideal ceremony is outside and fairly short, but my fiance is continually worried about weather and won't make a decision either way. Another thing I was thinking of was finding a place with big windows and lots of natural light to give the illusion of being in nature. We could just bring the leaves inside. But it's been difficult doing research for that, so I think I need to change research tactics.

My thoughts as well, but I live in Northwest Ohio and it could start snowing early October and no one would be surprised. This means I need to find a place woth both an indoor and outdoor option, or find something indoors with the illusion of being outdoors.
