Finding options for your guests that are flying to come to your wedding

Natalie, on February 3, 2021 at 9:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

HIII!! I am still at the beginning of preparing for my wedding. I have a tentative date of March 27,2022 and I am getting married in Puerto Rico. I would like for my venue to be close to airbnb, hotels for my guests to stay at.

I am looking at Hacienda Siesta Alegre (in case anyone did it there), I would like to hear your ideas on how you planned for that.

Thanks

We got married at a hotel so most of our guests stayed there, but some choose to drive home, stay at a different hotel or get an Airbnb. We left it up to them to decide their own accommodations. You can definitely recommend some places or set up a hotel block, but I wouldn't insist on guests staying somewhere specific unless you are covering the cost.

Unless you are able to get a super discounted rate for everyone at the same place, guests generally prefer to find their own lodging in their budget.

Hey there! How exciting!! My fiancé and I are also getting married at the Hacienda Siesta Alegre in February 2022! We are so excited! We reserved a hotel block at La Concha resort and are shuttling our guests from the hotel there. That way they are staying closer to the city and things to do. I’ve seen other people have their guests stay at Isla Verde Beach Resort (they have a beautiful wedding venue too if you’re interested in an ocean front wedding) or the Wyndham rio grand which is only a 15 minute drive to the venue. One thing that’s been super helpful to me with wedding planning there is to google the name of your wedding venue and then adding “wedding website”. You’ll see other couples wedding websites who have already gotten married in Puerto Rico pop up and then you can snoop to see where they had their guests stay, what they planned for the weekend, etc. Its been super helpful for me with planning! We also booked a wedding planner moi chic events if you’re in need of one of those.

Agree! I do not plan on paying for their stay but, I do not want to get married someplace where they would have to drive for more than 30 minutes either. Was contemplating getting a shuttle bus for them.

Hi!! That is awesome and congrats!! Yeah, we have been contemplating the idea of shuttle service. May I ask how did you go about on getting the blocks? what shuttle service you recommend?

Sure! For planning the hotel block, We contacted a few different hotels at the email address that they have listed for weddings. We got pricing from a few different hotels and made a decision on a hotel that we felt confident would be good for our guests. We booked the lowest number of rooms possible since we’re unsure how many people will actually use the blocks, but idk if that’s the best approach. Our thought was that many times people prefer to find their own accommodations like Airbnb or a hotel they get points for. Most of the hotels in San Juan will be about a 30 minute drive so id recommend booking a shuttle serve for guests if you book a hotel in the city. I figure everyone will be in a new place, and it would make it so much easier and less stressful for them to get to the venue.

For the shuttle, we haven’t booked shuttle services yet, but I know there’s a couple good ones on the island. We’ll probably book one closer to our wedding date.
One thing I didn’t realize was how expensive hotels were in Puerto Rico!! So that’s just something to keep in mind while you’re planning. The average price we got for room block rates was around $250/night in that time of year, more expensive than the states I think. There’s many nice hotels though so I’m sure whatever you choose will be great!

    Hey Laura & Natalie,

I am getting married at the Hacienda on 4/2/2022. I live in NY but am extremely familiar with the area as I grew up spending the summers one town over in Luquillo. I am not doing room blocks since a good portion of my guests will be staying in their homes in PR, or staying with family who has homes. Other guests will most likely want to do their own thing.

I originally thought about the smallest room block possible at Wyndham (I've stayed there and it is very nice but not easy on the wallet) but decided against it because their contract was very strict, required a large deposit, required upfront payment later on and the rooms were $299 a night. Instead I will recommend my guests to stay there - if a good amount do or decide to stay somewhere else, I will higher a shuttle service to take them back and forth.

We have some time so I will iron out the final details with a partial wedding planner when I bring her on. If you have any questions about the area, don't hesitate to reach out - I will be there all of March and April this year and am happy to share any information I have.

We're using the Hampton Inn near our venue. I liked that we could set up a block. Doing this ensures a certain number of rooms AND guests get a discounted rate. Our guests get the choice of two queen beds or a king bed for $109/night. They gave us a custom link to put on the wedding website and guests can book directly through there!

Beware though, some hotels will charge you for any rooms in your block that go unbooked. Hampton Inn doesn't do that, so it was one of the selling points!
