Finger bloating?

Krystal, on October 20, 2021 at 1:01 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 8
Anyone experience bloated fingers and figure out the reasoning? My ring was loose on me and for the past month I’ve barely been able to wear it :/

That’s weird, I’ve been experiencing the same thing! My ring was so loose on me that I’ve had to wear a sizer so that it would not slide off my finger. Now suddenly it is so tight I can barely even get it on my finger!

I've noticed that for me it depends on a few factors. Like if I'm warm or working out then my fingers get very bloated and my rings feel tight. But if I'm cold or I just washed my hands then it's very lose. Or a lot of salt also makes me bloat everywhere.

Alcohol too! I wasn't able to wear my engagement ring for a month or so because it was so tight. I cut waaay back on alcohol and drank more water and now it's perfect again.

Fingers tend to swell in the morning, drinking alcohol, in the heat, on airplanes, with weight gain or general bloated ness. In the summertime people usually feel a tighter fit.

Yep, it happens to me all the time. Sometimes I can't get my ring off, other times it feels like it'll slide off. Has to do with the amount of salt you have in your system, if you've drank any alcohol, the weather can make them bloat...a bunch of different factors really.

There are a lot of different factors. Estrogen is associated with swelling (edema), so you might experience it at different points in your menstrual cycle. There can also be cardiac reasons, so it might be worth seeing a doctor, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure or other heart conditions. It could also be due to a joint problem. Another possibility is low sodium levels, hydration, or over-hydration.

The most common culprits of swelling are hotter temperatures and consuming too much salt, but it can also be caused by hormonal fluctuations, alcohol, certain foods, elevation or pressure changes (such as being on an airplane), weight gain, pregnancy, damage or injury to your joints, or other medical conditions. You might find your fingers are at their skinniest in the morning, right when you wake up; others may find their fingers swollen at that time of day. Some people experience fluctuations of a full size pretty regularly, while others only experience mild changes in their fingers, enough to notice if a ring is a bit more snug or loose but not enough to warrant an actual difference in ring size. Over time, your fingers can permanently change in size due to aging, long term weight loss or gain, arthritis, or muscoskeletal changes due to exercise or pregnancy.

If you've had your ring for a while and can't pinpoint changes that may be the cause of your ring to be fitting differently all of a sudden, it may be worth mentioning to your doctor. For me, I've typically found the usual culprits - consuming too much salty food and not drinking enough water or seasonal temperature changes - can explain fluctuations I've experienced.
