Finger Lakes

Kia9, on May 1, 2017 at 3:39 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

We are thinking of having our little mini-moon in the Finger Lakes area of NY, but neither of us know anyone who has been there. Any recommendations for hotels/restaurants/things to do? We aren't committed to any particular city at this point.

When I've gone, we typically rent a house or cottage right on the lake, which is really nice. We've also stayed at the Best Western in Penn Yan and like that better than the other hotels in the area.

There's some great wineries around the finger lakes. We did a bus trip there and visited about 6 wineries. It was great!

Canandaigua Lake is gorgeous, particularly on the north side of the lake where there is the town. @Steph had a great idea of renting your own cottage.

There's tons of wineries you could tour, do outdoorsy things, etc. The Sonnenburg Gardens are beautiful, too.

It's gorgeous. I recommend the Seneca lake area. Their are lots of wine buses that take you from each winery. So much fun. Also lots of hiking and exploring to do there. Watkins glen state park is gorgeous.

Seneca lake is the biggest and has the most wineries and breweries (if that's your thing). There's a beautiful hotel at the northern tip in Geneva which is a cute little town. There should be a good amount of VRBOs too.

Highly recommend going to the finger lakes in general and love it! We have visited many times on various lakes.

Watkins Glen. Its at the tip of Seneca Lake. There is a Bed and Breakfast that is absolutely wonderful. Delicious food, spacious rooms and the owners are a husband and wife team that are amazing and supet knowledgeable. It is 20 minutes outside Corning wjere the glass museum is which is super fun. There are wineries, breweries and distilleries within driving distance and the B and B offers an actual day outing where they will put you up with a driver, and a cooler of sbacks and water for the day so you dont have to worry about driving. FH and I go every year for Memorial Day weekend. Its absolutely stunning and has something for everyone! The name of the place is called Echoes of the Glen Bed and Breakfast. I highly, highly recommend them! We love the finger lakes area, its the perfect getaway for us!

We did a mini moon in Ithaca! Spent a couple nights at Argos Inn which is gorgeous and within walking distance of the downtown Commons area. Highly recommend!. I've been to other areas of the Finger Lakes but had never spent much time in Ithaca. We went on a few hikes, got a couples massage at Rasa Spa which was wonderful, lots of good food and shops, artsy college town.

I worked and lived for years on Keuka so I am biased to that lake.I do think it has the best wineries hands down (KLV and Dr. Frank!). Look for an airbnb on the water and rent a boat for the week. Most relaxing honeymoon ever!
