Fingerprint Tree Guestbook

Beth, on January 28, 2015 at 10:52 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

Has anyone done, or are planning to do a fingerprint tree guest book? I love this idea! I love that it will be a great piece to add to our home as a remembrance of who shared our special day with us! If you have done this or are doing this where are you getting your tree from?

I saw them at Michaels the other day for 15 bucks, withe 50 % off coupon you just cant go wrong. You may have to stop at Goodwill for a frame because i dont remember if it was in a frame or not.

I have seen them on Etsy and that is about it. I will have to check out Michaels for sure.

MY MOH did one for her wedding two years ago...her cousin painted the tree for her. So I guess that isn't much help.

It's on paper so you have to buy a frame for it - but its HUGE. 20x24. I wasnt expecting it to be so big, but I love it.

    @Sarah that looks great!

@Alysha are you going to have them write their names by their print?

My wedding was nautical...so we didn't do a tree but rather a lighthouse scene. (I got the idea from Pinterest but my grandma painted it). Its on canvas. The fingerprint paint came from amazon, I don't remember what its called but if you type in fingerprint guest book paint it will probably pop up.

@Heather that is really pretty. I have seen them as fireworks, flowers, balloons, and trees but never like that! That is really cool!

Yes. This is what it will look like finished (hopefully).

But we are using 3 shades of green since our wedding is in April.

    Heather that's really pretty!

I've seen them before and they never look as good as imagined in my opinion. The finger prints are all uneven or smudged, and it's hard for people with long names to write them small enough.

@Alysha I love the fact that they are on the ground as well as on the tree. It gives you opportunity for more names. Are you planning on having wet wipes for them to get the ink off after?

We made one (DIY) on canvas and used dye ink for the ink pads, but sadly all of the fingerprints have already faded Smiley sad Apparently you shouldn't expose any type of ink pad ink to sunlight. At least we have photos... I don't have the one from the end of the night, but this gives you an idea. Honestly it would be an easy DIY even if you aren't good at drawing. You could trace a tree etc. Or Etsy!

We are going to have wet wipes, a little trash can, & ultra fine point sharpies. It comes with a test page explaining to guests how to get a good fingerprint that wont smear, thats too big, etc. But its not supposed to be perfect, that's the point. We wanted something fun, though we are also having a traditional guestbook.

@Alysha your wedding is long before mine so maybe I will get back with you and see you after of it. Everything you are planning to do is exactly what I was thinking. We planned to have a few "fun" tables set up to do such things on like this aside from our traditional guest book. We have few other projects we want to set out for people to take part in if they want.

@Rosemary - I used ColorBox Pigment Archival Inks. I did a lot of research and these are fade resistant and smudgeproof.

I ordered only one color to start. When I got it, I pressed a finger on the ink pad and then stamped it on a porous paper. The I immediately wet a different finger and tried to smudge my print - it remained perfect.

The ink pads themselves say "slow drying pigment ink". Maybe it dries slower on glossy paper?

I have had zero fading on mine Smiley smile

I just got some random ink at Hobby Lobby. I'm going to have to check out the label and see what it says! I didn't think about it fading or smudging. I am just afraid to open it 3 months before. Time to buy a sample set!
