Do you know what thier wedding theme is? Since the wedding is 12/12 maybe you can try to get xmas lights from family and friends and hang them up, and a lot of mistletoe would be nice too. If you go to Joann fabrics in like November their xmas stuff should be on sale (if there is one near you) Or any other craft store, but try to figure out their theme and get decorations to go with that. Good luck, I hope I helped a little bit. O BTW a close friend of mine had a firehouse wedding last may and it was beautiful (I was MOH) Good luck!

Thank you. Great idea with the Mistletoe's and Lights. I was thinking icicle lights? This is going to be very difficult since we don't have a lot of money to work with. Thanks for your suggestions Smiley smile

Fabric is key! My church's community center was an old firehouse, and we decorate it all the time for banquets and such. We used a lot of fabric, lights and since it's near christmas, your theme could be Winter Wonderland. Borrow x-mas stuff from everyone you know.

The school I work at has a yearly dinner to raise money. We transform our multipurpose room (which is full of cubbies, toys, cabinets, etc) into a really lovely formal dining area by draping black fabric from the ceiling to hide the kid stuff. You could combine fabric and lighting to make things look really nice. Different types of fabric would have differing effects. For example, you could use a gauzy transparent fabric with lights behind it to create a soft glow of color.

I agree with the pps, use lots of white christmas lights! Borrow white lights from anyone you can. Put a piece of masking tape on the wire with their name, so you can return it to the proper owner. Hit flea markets in your area and continually check for sales in craft stores. Check the dollar stores for vases. I found nice bud vases with an etching of grapes for my sand ceremony, and mini wine glass votive holders for my centerpieces at a dollar store near me. The large sand ceremony vase I got at Marshalls for $7.99. (i plan on putting pics on my inspiration board today or tomorrow, so check back) I got all of my taller centerpiece vases from walmart for $1.97ea. Walmart also has floating candles and cheap silk flowers that you can use for the centerpieces. The dollar store also had ivy vines which I will be using for my arch. They also have wedding garland which can be hung from the ceiling, and clear "crystal" hearts which cab be dangled from centerpieces, or hung with fishing line

Cont. from the ceiling. Gather some fallen branches and twigs from the yard or a park, and spray paint them white. Add a little glitter, or drape them with pretty silver, gold, or whatever the wedding colors are christmas ornaments. (These can be borrowed too) or get some from the dollar store. Get some fake snow, or snowflake confetti to scatter on the tables. Walk through the dollar stores and other discount stores in your area. Find something pretty and ask yourself "how can I incorporate this?" Use your creativity, and you'll be surprised at what you come up with!

O I love kathys idea about having the crystal hearts hanging from the ceiling, yes, I think icicle lights would work just fine. Yea but if there are any xmas lights that ppl wouldn't mind letting u use then I would use them, one less expense, I know for me when my FH proposed he gave me a bride and groom build a bear and I was going to put them at the table where ppl can write special thoughts or memories for us. Thats one less decoration expense plus its something meaningful that tells part of our engagment story, also FH gave me a mirror that says I love you always and a glass red rose, I am going to use that somehow too. Good luck Brooke. Smiley smile

Why not imbrace the firehouse and utlilize the speledor of the space-- i would consider using antitque fireman laterners and items to pruce up the space, and use red and orange roses with yellow highlights--

Also you mentioned not having a lot of money. Im sure many family and friends have christmas lights that they would be wiling to donate for the day of! Borrowing from close friends and family can get you a ton of goods for a winter wedding and save a lot of money!

Yes, Its always good to hit the dollar tree, FH and I can't spend more then like 2000.00 for our wedding and we have found orientaltrading.com to be very nice and you get a lot of bang for ur buck, usually you buy items in bulk, some things are pricy but for the most part stuff is pretty cheap. Good luckSmiley smile

I love the suggestions here and agree whole heartedly with go with the winter theme! The dollar store is a great resource, and as Christmas approaches, they will have a lot of ornaments with snowflakes! String them with some invisible thread and hang them from the ceiling, incorporate snowflakes in the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and altar floral. Use batting on the aisle to create the illusion that the Bride is walking down an aisle of "snow". Use snowmen as pew markers. Purchase inexpensive stryofoam balls, they come in white, and place them on the floor around the altar. They will look like snowballs! Just don't let the kiddos have them during the ceremony!

You would be surprised what you can find on the internet. I got all of my decorations from the internet. Google is great. Try websites like partycheap.com and orientaltrading.com.
