First Dance - How does it work?

It's your wedding... do what feels comfortable to you! My best friend had her DJ fade their song out after about 2 min. Because the song they picked was rather long (almost 4 min from start to end). We are doing a choreographed dance so we're dancing our whole song... or have the DJ invite others to join you after a min or so... I've been to weddings where they've had just the wedding party join them, and others had everyone join them on the dance floor. Your day = your rules.

Your day=/=your rules. When others see that they will think it's perfectly fine to be bad hosts, and treat guests poorly.

A minute and a half should be the longest the dance goes, anything over that and guests get bored, and trust me, it's plenty long.

Our first dance song is about 7 minutes long so we are cutting it short to at least 3 minutes or so.

Our dance instructor advised us to keep it short because a guest's attention span, no matter how much they love you, is only so long.

You can do the whole song or just a snippet, it's totally up to you!

We did like maybe 60 seconds of our first dance song. We didn't love the attention while dancing so we wanted to keep it short and sweet!

I've been told people oftentimes dance for about 2 minutes and then the DJ can fade the song out or make an announcement for people to join the couple on the dance floor. My FH has two left feet, so we will probably fade our song after a couple minutes. More than a couple just seems like too long a time.

Were doing a first dance but we’re having a slideshow of pictures of us throughout our relationship playing behind us so that the focus isn’t just on us. We want people to watch the slideshow so that we can just have that moment together. The lights will be down really low for it as well.
