First Dance Lessons - attire

Emily, on January 7, 2018 at 5:08 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

My fiance and I have decided to take ballroom dance classes to prepare for our first dance. Should I wear my wedding shoes to the lessons? I am wearing wedge heels with leather soles. I have read that one should wear leather-soled shoes and most of my shoes have rubber bottoms (except for the heels). Also, what kind of clothing should I wear? Smiley smile

Wear comfortable clothing, and can wear tennis shoes-so many of us in the classes did. Some wore the dance shoes with tiny heels. Our instructors told me not to wear my wedding shoes so they wouldn't get ruined.

Comfy but nice clothes. Pants that have some stretch in them and a shirt that lets you put your arms in the right place.
I wore my shoes the last lesson we had to make sure they would work and be comfy for dancing (so I know when I’m changing shoes ; am I capatable if dancing in them.) however my shoes are navy and don’t show marks .
No mater what wear some kind of heel it helps get the right feeling for foot placement.

I used to go out and polka a lot. (It's a kind of ballroom dancing. Don't you judge me! Smiley tongue ) Unless you're doing a choreographed number, I wouldn't worry about what you're wearing too much. I always like a loose fitting maxi dress. It gave me the room to move and made me feel girl-y.

Leggings is great and loose top.. You can bring open toe mid high heels. ( former teacher) You may be barefoot at one point. It is fun!

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I will probably wear ballet flats or sneakers to the first lesson at least! I like the idea of wearing my wedding shoes to at least one of the lessons (last one or so) or some sort of mid-heel. Also, all of your suggestions about comfy clothes make me feel better - leggings or something I have! I didn't want to go out and buy clothes to dance in!

    Thank you! Smiley smile
