First Dance Song - CRYING every time I hear it... What to do? Advice?

Jennifer, on April 13, 2012 at 3:53 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

So every time I listen to our first dance song "At the Beginning" from Anastasia I get all weepy and start crying because the lyrics are so perfect to describe our relationship.

As many of you know FH and are professional dancers and are planning an elaborate first dance with "Dancing with the Stars" types of lifts and theatricality. The only problem is I get teary-eyed and cry... not good for flips and lifts! Below is a picture of the lift we're practicing right now called the "Star" ... tears and a runny nose wouldn't be much fun while doing this.

Any advice to minimize the potential crying?

Maybe just by listening to the song enough as we practice or by putting it on repeat on my iPod it will make me less likely to cry?

Yeah-- I think you just have to keep playing it over and over again.

I am going to dance with my dad to I Wont Give Up by Jason Mraz and I cry everytime I listen to it--but its a little less each time.

Thanks Jessica, I'm going to try to listen to it a few time a day at work... that way I don't get emotional EVERYTIME I hear it. Smiley smile I'm a weepy sensitve person anyway and knowing that when I hear the song I'll be married to my best friend I just makes me so darn happy-teary eyed!

Good luck on the tears... The other thing is to have a backup plan if you cannot hit the lift (dont dancers do that?) and just roll with it! My guess is you will be so happy by that point and hopefully teared-out that it wont happen anymore!

@Jessica, yeah we can do something else if I'm too weepy and that's a great idea to plan for it just in case. We'll probably be so sick of the song by the wedding that I won't care anymore. hahah

When I first put together a totally civil ceremony, I got teary-eyed reading it in my office. I just said to myself, "Nancy, YOU can't be the one crying at this wedding!" So, I read the ceremony over and over a few times and got it out of my system. But, I frequently see guests crying in addition to the B&G.

I hope you have some bloomers on with that pose. LOL. I had to learn the words to the song I'm dancing with my Dad to because I couldn't make it to the 2nd line of the song. It's helped.

First of all you guys must have amazing talent to be doing that style of dancing. That being said, I think listening will help. Now off the subject can I steal your fh to teahc me how to be a remotely good dancer so I can make my fw's wedding day that much better?

Maybe hearing the song over and over might make it less intense...But after hearing our song, Still With You, I cry. Maybe taking out the lift would be a thought, but I say cry if you need to...

I have found in the past that the more I listen to a song the more it just kind of fades into a soundtrack. I like the idea of listening to it over and over.
