First Dance Song - "Latch" by Sam Smith?!

My FH and I are thinking about using Sam Smith's acoustic version of "Latch" for our first dance song. However, I'm honestly not completely sure of the meaning of the song. The use of the word "shackled" really throws me off. I'm not sure if the acoustic version can be seen as romantic, whereas the regular version (featuring Disclosure) is more obsessive love?

What are everyone's reactions to this song? Any advice for it as a first dance song?

This was a runner up for a potential first dance song for over a year. I didn't LOVE the acoustic as much as I LOVED the original so I passed. But that is still "our song" just not our first dance.

Oh I LOVE that as a first dance song!
ETA: I don't think the word 'shackled' is a bad thing in this context

I love this song and think it'll be perfectly fine for a first dance song. We're using it for our processional.

Thank you for the reassuring comments! We absolutely LOVE the song, and have been so set on it, especially since we saw it performed in concert. Thanks for the little nudge I needed to get over what anybody else would be thinking during the first dance! (:

And OP Latch is a great song! I see nothing inappropriate about the shackled term. Pick what you feels most accurately reflects yourself and your FH.

I think that is lovely! The shackled wouldn't even phase me, and I don't think I would even notice as a guest.

OMG- I totally wanted to do this song. Which one did you chose? How was it. My FH does not like to dance and is easily embarrassed I feel like slowing it down will make him even more nervous. We both love the song. I would like this one to be our first song. Can you give me any advice?

We ended up going with the acoustic version of the song and we absolutely loved it! When you are in the moment and just enjoying your first dance, you don't even realize that other people are watching and it doesn't really seem like that long (at least in our experience). We just did the basic slow dance, nothing outrageous, because we aren't the best slow dancers. But, it still worked great. I would totally say to go for it since you both love the song!
