First Dance song?

Julie, on July 22, 2019 at 3:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
My fiancée and I are trying to decide on a first dance song. We were leaning towards “Stand By Me” because that’s what we were dancing to when he proposed, but we feel like we can come up with something less “overplayed” as a wedding song. Lately we’ve been into “I’m On Fire” by Bruce Springsteen as our first dance song, but I am aware that some people interpret that song as “longing for someone that’s already taken,” or even some people think it’s about pedophelia (I mean really?!). I just don’t want our guests getting weirded out. What do you think? Good choice or too chancey? Do you have other recommendations for song choices?

Stand by Me is a great song choice. We chose an acoustic version of Recycled Air by The Postal Service. It was at one of their concert my FH told me he loved me for the first time.Smiley heart

I totally get where you're coming from! We struggled to find a song, and then when we thought we had found it (Into the Mystic by Van Morrison) someone said "it reminds me of when someone DIES!" And I was like "....ok....so that's out." LOL.

Anyway, I think going with your gut - whether other people like it or not - is most important. I like Stand By Me! If it has meaning to you, go with it! We ended up deciding on "Someone Like You" by Van Morrison because we wanted the "non-overplayed, classic rock, something special to us" feeling. I swear, finding the first dance song was one of the hardest parts of the planning for us! lol

Maybe you can do an instrumental version of it? That way it still has meaning for the two of you, but kinda takes away negative connotations associated with it based on the words?

I think Stand by Me would be a great choice, especially since it has such deep meaning to you two (which is so stinkin' cute, btw). I wouldn't worry about it being a "typical" wedding song, I would go with what you love that has sentimental value!

We are dancing to Amazed by Lonestar because even after two years he still manages to amaze me every day.

I think you should go with stand by me and not worry about it being too overplayed. Because it sounds like that song is genuinely important to your relationship

I think Stand By Me would be a great choice! I wouldn't worry about it being overplayed, its your day! We are doing "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran and I've seen post after post saying that people hate that song because its so overplayed. Neither of us listen to that genre of music really so we had never heard it before, but when we were looking for a song we heard this one and locked eyes and said "thats the one". Dance to whatever makes you happy.
