First Fight Box Question

Regina, on December 1, 2013 at 9:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

I have never heard of a first fight box until WW and I love the idea! For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a box that you put in a bottle of wine, 2 wine glasses, and letters written by you and FH to each other to open and read down the road when you have a big fight, or 10 year anniversary whichever is first. We really want to do this, but I have no idea where to get this type of box. Did any of you do this and where did you get the box? I don't have much to spend on it but want something that will look nice in the house as well...

If you want a cheap option, you could make one together and paint it yourself or try ebay. Otherwise, a quick google search will bring up a lot of places that sale them. I've seen some as cheap as $50.

I've heard of it. You don't have to put wine or beer. The point is to put things to remind you why you love this person. Letter written for that moment, letters from the past, even pictures of the two of you.

We are doing it..but planning to use it to open on our first anniversary-write new letters and add new wine then and re-open year 5 and so on. We're calling it a wine and love letter ceremony instead of a first fight box, but the same concept.

I actually just received ours and it came out great. Here is the Etsy link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/161336962/wedding-gift-engraved-wine-box-with

We're doing something very very similar, a wine box as part of our ceremony. But we're opening it every anniversary to drink the wine, read the letters and write new ones. We love vino so it's up our alley. I got ours from etsy, there's lots on there just search wine box. We had it engraved with our wedding date, names and the same saying that's on the inside of the first ring he ever gave me (a claddagh) Love, Loyalty, Friendship

We call it "Wine and Words", a bit more positive than first fight. Before we close it at the wedding, we invite the guests to use their escort cards to write a wish for the couple and use the whole shebang as a time capsule.

My sister did this for her wedding, I can't remember where she got the box from though. She painted their initials on the box, it was pretty cute. Also the mothers from both sides wrote a letter to put in the box too. I would maybe not call it a first fight box, more like something to celebrate at a particular anniversary (my sister chose 5). When the pastor at her ceremony explained that if there were hard times they could open the box it seemed to really be a downer thing to say during a happy ceremony. I don't want to think about fighting when I'm saying my vows. Of course the two of you can privately agree that you'll open it during hard times but maybe just leave it out of the ceremony. Also if you want to wait 10 years for the wine, make sure you get a wine that will age well, some definitely won't taste good after that much time!

I agree, I don't like the term "first fight box." We actually don't want to do it during our ceremony, though. We are just doing this ourselves the week of the wedding. Smiley smile

I love this and showed FH and he thought it was a good idea.. I dont really get it for the first fight.. i would use it more for if times are getting really tough and you need a reminder. FH will be building it though..

We had a wine box ceremony at our wedding and I loved it (though we opted for champagne inside, rather than wine)! We're reading the letters on our 1st anniversary and then replacing them with new letters to be read on our 5th (on our 5th we'll replace with letters for our 10th, etc). My bff and her husband made ours - his dad is a woodworker, so they built it together and then my bff did the wood burning. I LOVE the way it turned out!

ETA - got a screen shot of it!

I'm doing this also. My Dad is making the box for us. We want to put wine, love letters, and then ask our guests to add any wishes and we will open on our first anniversary... I didn't think to redo it for future anniversarys but I really like that idea and think I will be taking that lol

Knowing me and my FH, we'd open that bitch up within a month, lol. Not because of him, because of me. I'm an arguer and a fighter... I try not to be but I can't help it. lol... Thank God my FH puts up with me, lol.
