A few months ago I decided (so i thought) that I wanted to do a first look. A few months ago I decided (so i thought) that I wanted to do a first look. I thought it would be nice to share that special moment between us not in front of everyone, that it would help us calm down a little before the ceremony, and so that we would already have most the pictures out of the way & not make guests wait for an hour or more at cocktail hour. But now I’m having a few concerns/reservations
1.) My hair & makeup will have to be done a lot sooner. My hair doesn’t hold up styles well and my face doesn’t hold up makeup the best, by the time the ceremony happens I will have had it on for 3+ hours!
2.) First look & pictures would start around 2:30 (wedding is in May). I just love golden hour photos, the light is so flattering vs 2:30 direct sunlight casting shadows & what not!3.) Isn’t it a little weird to take your husband/wife pictures before you’re even married?4.) Last thing is I’m having trouble letting go of that special walking down the isle moment with all the emotion and tears that I’ve been dreaming of. But I’ve seen a lot of women say that still happened even after the first look.Thoughts? Advice? Thank You!!

We did photos where it was a first touch and then we did first look photos. it's great also in that you can get your photos out of the way

We did a first look and it was amazing. Having that special moment between us was one of my favorite parts of our wedding day. We have the photos and videos of that moment which will last a lifetime.

We did our first look about 1 hour and 45 minutes before the start of our ceremony. There is no need to do your first look scheduled 3+ hours before your ceremony.

If your hair and makeup artist are true professionals and know what they are doing, your hair and makeup will stay perfect all day. My hair does not typically hold style well and by the end of the night, my hair looked just like it did when it was done.

A true professional photographer who knows what they are doing will be able to take gorgeous photos regardless of the lighting.

Walking down the aisle was still very special for me even though we did a first look. It is a completely different moment. You are truly walking into the rest of your life at that moment. Totally different than the feeling of a first look, in my opinion.

We were very anti-first look, but we've decided to do one for multiple reasons.

    1) More pictures will be taken and out of the way before the ceremony, leaving more time for us to enjoy our guests and reception

    2) My hair doesn't hold styles well either, so it's best to get more pictures done before the ceremony when it's freshest

    3) Many of our friends that had a first look said it was very intimate to spend that time alone together. It helped calm nerves and jitters and didn't take away from the 'walk down the aisle' moment.

AGREED and this is why we will not be having a first look as well. I plan on calming FH's nerves wedding day but sending him a gift bag of his favorite snacks, a pair of "in case you get cold feet" socks, a wedding day note from me and a mini of bourbon, Smiley heart It's like a hug in a package.

FH actually was against a first look from literally the day we got engaged and it's honestly what I'm most looking forward to on wedding day, our first look as I walk down the aisle with my dad and son.
