First Look vs Walking Down the Aisle

Allie, on October 31, 2018 at 7:36 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

For those of you who did first looks - how did you feel walking down the aisle? Did you feel the first look took away the excitement and emotion of walking down the aisle? How did your first look and aisle walk feel different?

For us it didn’t take away any of the emotion! We both bawled as I walked down the aisle and were so overcome with emotion. The first look got the jitters out and we got pictures done and got some alone time. But walking down the aisle was like omg this is real!

Originally I said I didn’t want to do a first look but now I may do one just to save on time. I’d like to spend as much time with guests as possible.

I don’t think a first look will work well at my venue anyway, so we’re going traditional. We have a small wedding party (just MOH & BM) and our families are small, so doing pics afterwards shouldn’t take too long. We’re having cocktails & appetizers (& a couple of get-to-know games) for the guests while getting the photos done.

We did a first look and walking down the aisle was still amazing. We both got emotional when I came down the aisle. I wouldn’t change it at all.

We did a first look and I loved it!! It was a great chance to get the nerves out of the way and spend a few minutes just the two of us before being pulled in a bunch of different directions. We took some couple pictures before the ceremony, but didn't have time for everything since we were running late with our first look. If we didn't do one, I would have been very disappointed with how many pictures we took during cocktail hour. The family pictures took much longer than expected and an hour flies by. Both my husband and I felt the first look was the right decision for us. He still teared up a little when I walked down the aisle. It was still very emotional walking up to him, but without the nerves. I'm so glad we opted for a first look.

We are early on in planning but at this point we are thinking first look and most of our photos ahead of time so we can spend time with our friends and family after the ceremony. Also we will both be emotional and I'm hoping to get some of that out of the way.

We did a first look, and it was so nice that it was just the 2 of us (and our photographers) for a while after not seeing each other all day. I’m glad we chose the first look, because it allowed us that time together before things got crazy. I got so nervous walking up the stairs to our ceremony then walking down the aisle, it all happened in a blur and I can’t even picture what Hs face looked like in that moment 😩 I’m so glad we had 2 photographers and a videographer though so we can re-live our ceremony moment!
We were both still so excited and happy when I walked down the aisle though, so I don’t think it took away any emotion from that moment at all.

I am not going to do a first look with my groom, I want to see his reaction when he sees me walking down the aisle towards him, but I will do a first look with my dad. My dad doesn't know what my dress looks like & I know he will cry like a baby. I really want to get those emotions caught on camera separately! Smiley smile

We're doing a first look and all the pictures before the ceremony but I'm actually curious as to what happens during the cocktail hour now? Aren't pictures usually done then and everyone at the cocktail hour will be interacting with us before we get announced at the reception for the first time. Does that take the excitement out of the first announcement?

We are doing a first look. Our wedding is at our house. Lots of family and comotion will be going on the days leading up. We are going to a location a few minutes from our house to do the first look so that we get a chance to be (semi) alone and away from the craziness for a second.

We are also planning to surprise FSIL and FFIL with a miniphoto shoot just for them at this time. FFIL has stage 4 cancer and FSIL isn't married. So we want to give them a special moment since we have no idea how much longer we have with him. They've both done so much for us that it's the least we can do for them.
