Flip flop basket-update:I caved and bought some

NatHam, on April 6, 2017 at 3:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 39

Is anyone or has anyone did a flip flop basket at your reception? Our venue has access to a firepit, wood burning pizza oven, beautiful gardens, and lots of places to roam. It is in the country at a restored 1800s barn and my aunt suggested making a flip flop basket for the ladies that wear heals..

How many would you get, obviously not everyone will wear them. And what is the most popular shoe size? I was thinking around 7-8. Update: well I bought 20 pairs and made a little less than $30 bucks. My closet old navy is almost an hour away so I paid around 1.40 for each pair. After reading the mixed reviews I was scared to buy them, but I think it will end up being a hit!

At any wedding I've been to that had these no one used them. I'd save the money.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did make a note on our wedding website to wear appropriate shoes for the venue.. so I hope majority of people see that.

I went to a wedding and they were all gone by the end of the night! So I guess it depends on the place and people you invite! Lol

I would skip it. I personally have never seen this done, but it seems like a waste to me. My thoughts would be:

    What sizes should I get?

What if I run out of sizes?

    What is nobody uses them?

Can I return any of the unused ones?

    Will anyone take them home?

Will the venue be left with picking up gross, used flip flops?

Awe man you guys! I was thinking that for my venue (wood floors in a barn), stairs and paths going around outside of the barn, it would be nice!

That is the outside space, tons of bistro tables, the bathrooms are a short walk across the courtyard, and I think a lot of people will spend cocktail hour outside.

As everyone mentioned- save your money. I never used these and have always brought my own shoe change if I wanted to change into flats! Just mention on your invite to wear comfortable shoes Smiley smile

What about like 15 pairs? A few of each size.. I live in cheap flip flops in the summer, especially around the yard.. I would just take the rest home.

I have a part time job in retail and I can get them very cheap with the current sale and my discount. I wouldn't be spending much on them, so if I lost $25 it wouldn't be that big of deal.

My FSIL did this at her wedding, I didn't even use them, I just went bare foot when my feet hurt which was at the very end. I don't think anyone used them, they took pictures of them and commented on how cute it was but didn't actually use them

I think your best bet is to make sure your guests know what type of reception to expect so they can dress appropriately. You can describe the venue and reception activities on an invitation enclosure card or your wedding website.

I was thinking about doing this but I think most ladies just go barefoot at a certain point. I'll have my shoes off before dinner probably. Lol! I would skip it.

I've only been to one wedding where this was done and they were all gone in seconds. Then the bride had so many questions about where she got them from and her inspiration.

The most common shoe size is an 8.

If you write on the website to wear appropriate footwear, hopefully most will so you can get away with only a small bucket.

I'm doing it! My mom made one for my brothers wedding she probably go like 50 pairs in varying sizes from like 6-10 and majority like 7-9. She got them from old navy during the $1 flip flop sale. I think if it's known that they are available people will take them! Maybe put them in/around the bathroom or have the dj announce them.

Thank you everyone. I am still questioning it. I can get them for slightly over $1 at my second job today with my discount. That is why I threw out the question. My aunt said they went over so well at the last wedding she went to and that's why she thought I should consider it.

But I am also someone who just throws off their shoes! so I can see it being useless. Worst comes to worst I will return them in a few months. Return policy is 120 days!

I'm considering it if I can afford it. I want to do this for most of the same reasons as you, but my MAIN reason is because of who I am as a person. I live in Flip-Flops 90% of the time. Just about the only time I'm not wearing them is if it's snowing(can't say I haven't worn them in the snow too), and if open-toed shoes aren't allowed. So I thought more than anything that they would be cute favors for the ladies. Smiley smile
