Flip flop basket-update:I caved and bought some

Is anyone or has anyone did a flip flop basket at your reception? Our venue has access to a firepit, wood burning pizza oven, beautiful gardens, and lots of places to roam. It is in the country at a restored 1800s barn and my aunt suggested making a flip flop basket for the ladies that wear heals.....

How many would you get, obviously not everyone will wear them. And what is the most popular shoe size? I was thinking around 7-8. Update: well I bought 20 pairs and made a little less than $30 bucks. My closet old navy is almost an hour away so I paid around 1.40 for each pair. After reading the mixed reviews I was scared to buy them, but I think it will end up being a hit!

@taylor, I so agree with you. I love my flip flops, as soon as I can wear them they are back on and usually the cheap ones! Most of my guests are the same way also. The wedding my aunt went to in my hometown said that they went through almost 4 dozen flip flops and it was a winter wedding.

A family friend had this at their wedding, and nobody wore them. So now they have 100 pairs of cheap flip flops in their basement. I'd skip this.

I agree that people don't use them.. could you maybe do socks or something or skip it? I know I put on socks/ or bare feet at weddings!

With the type of floor in the barn, I think socks may get snagged up. They are nice floors, but it is a restored barn!

Agree. I went to two wedding one with the flip flops gone before the 1st dance and the other it was about 70% gone. Guess it depends on your guests. I'm going to have a basket of flip flops and bought about 5 5's and 5 9's and the rest are all 7's-8's

I made a flip flop basket but only put about 12 pairs in it. I bought them when Old Navy had them on sale for $1.

I don't think their necessary. I feel like most women plan ahead and bring an extra pair of shoes with anyway. Maybe that's just me. Also I love the enchanted barn! Just wanted to say that Smiley smile

My mom wants to do a flip flop basket for mine, because it's going to be outside at a park. But, I told her no one's going to use them and that people will already be wearing shoes they feel is appropriate. What she doesn't seem to realize is that the tent has a normal floor and a dance floor. Dancing in flip flops is not fun.

    ETA: I wear a size 9. I couldn't fit in a 7-8. I would skip the flip flops.

Thanks for posting this question. I was thinking of doing the same at my wedding. Mostly because I don't like walking around barefoot - outside of my home.

After reading these responses, I may skip it.

I thought about it, it was a hit a a wedding I was at, but know your crowd. Mine is an older crowd in October in NJ. So even though I would only spend about $30, I have enough only $30 items I'm skipping. But I am going to buy for my BM.

I found a really good deal on Plain White ballet style slippers comma like two for a dollar, so I bought a few in size seven eight and nine. It's not too much of an investment so I don't know if they will get use, but seeing as several of my party wear inappropriate shoes, and the other half is elderly, I'm sure they will go over well

I think if you have the DJ announce it they would all be gone!! I'd get a few small sizes then a bunch of the 7-9 range (most flip flops have that 2-3 size range)

I did this and I'd say Approximately 90 women rsvped yes, I bought 60 and was left with 25. Everyone liked it - and I've taken a pair at every wedding I've seen them at. I was a flip flop buyer for a large corporation- I bought heavily in 7-8, next biggest buy was 9-10, and my smallest buy was 11-12 and 5-6. I saw them getting used- this was on Long Island 2 years ago. If you can, wait until one of Old Navy's sale!

Wow I'm surprised with how many people say they go unused. I've been to two weddings with them, and at both they were all gone before the end of the night.

I didn't have the patience to wait for $1 flip flops at Old Navy, I got them for $2 though which isn't terrible. I did 30 pairs (130 guests total). I did lots of 8, some 7s and 9s, a few 10s, and 2 pairs of size 6 and 11.

I've been to a wedding where this was offered and they were all gone right away! I think there were only about 15 but I enjoyed them.

I wanted to, but it seems like an expensive headache. Sizing, pricing, size tags, the bucket itself...for maybe some to use them. At least, in my situation.

Its a cute idea, though! I think if you want to do it, just stick to general sizing (6-10) and only do so many. Perhaps give a heads up for people to wear flip flops instead of regular fancy shoes
