Florida December Outside Wedding

Cristina, on December 5, 2019 at 5:51 AM Posted in Florida Planning 0 8
Hello Everyone,

I am in the very early stages of planning as our big day is not until 2021. Our original month was March, but we recently pushed it out to December, in Vero Beach FL. The venue we plan to book in a few weeks is basically considered outside. It is a southern house that we can rent for the full weekend (Fri-Sun afternoon) and sleeps 10-12 people. The ceremony and reception are outside, the reception sitting and eating area is covered by a wood structure. The dance area is a huge deck that comes right off the house and is not covered.
Please share your thoughts, it would help me to those more ideas around and possibly either change my month or venue :-(

I live about an hour from there. Chances for rain are a lot less in December than in March. Also it depends on the time of day the wedding is. In December it can be 80 degrees or it could be 45. Really hard to tell. I would suggest if it’s in the evening rent a few heaters just in case. Place sounds beautiful though.

Hi Shelly, thank you so very much! You are sooooo right about the weather, I much rather a chill in the air than rain. By my house, it can feel a bit chiller as I am closer to the water. The venue is The Lake House, Fort Pierce, FL, I just fell in love. We thought of having our wedding in St. Augustine and looked at a venue in Indiantown, but keeping it close to home will save us on the budget, plus it is easier for my FH family to get to without spending on a hotel if they don't want to stay--- his parents and their spouses are the type to either stay in their camper or go home so we didn't want to do it too far out for them, they are in Cocoa. For my out of state family, I save by using my house as an option for them to stay as well. Once again thank you so very much!!! Happy Planning and congratulations to you and your FH.

Thank you! You as well! I looked up your venue and it looks very nice. My brother is getting married this weekend in Boca and I know it’s further south but the high on Saturday is supposed to be 80 and the low 66 (which usually happens in the middle of the night). I say do what makes you happy. More time to plan is usually a good thing but if you really want to have it in March, do that.

I agree with everything Shelly said. Plan on renting a few heaters so you don't get stuck with a last minute cost. Also keep in mind the early sunset time when planning your timeline, and look into pretty string lights or something for the outdoor area. But I think it sounds lovely Smiley smile

Thank you so much Dayna! I did not even think of the early sunset time!!! That’s a great tip! They have renovated the venue some and added market lights but I was thinking of adding more by the fire pit area.

I so love this community forum board and love everyone’s kindness in taking out the time to give some pointers.

Grew up in Florida and I will agree with others that you will likely have better weather in December than March. Another consideration about your month is the flight cost for your out of state travelers. March can be expensive to get to and from Florida because of spring break. December likely isn't very expensive between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but if your non-local relatives already travel for those holidays, traveling again could be a lot on them. If these relatives already visit you/your area at that time of year, maybe try to make your wedding date close enough to the holiday so the wedding and the holiday can be in the same trip.

I was actually thinking about travel costs as well just the other day. I’m hoping with telling people so much in advance they will have a year to save. Yesterday I was thinking hummm should I do it right on the holiday or should I do it earlier in the month, as non of my out of start family spends time with me during the holiday etc for my mother—- but it would be easier with there being Christmas Break for school/college and most of my families jobs. It would be less of a worry on the time or year if my venue was inside but I’m truly loving the whole weekend theme. I’m about to elope (JK!)
