Florida Marriage License?! Help

Nicole, on June 24, 2020 at 4:44 PM Posted in Florida Planning 0 5
Hello all!

So we have had an appointment for a few weeks now in a county that now is telling us if we are traveling out of state that we will not pass the questionnaire and not be able to get our license. Help! We are secretly eloping on Sunday in St Augustine and in need of recommendations for a place we can get in on Friday.
We are coming from Illinois/Wisconsin

Not sure what is happening now but I think you have to get the license of where you marry. I know in Florida you need three days before you can have the ceremony from what I understand. What do you mean a place you can get in on Friday? A place where you can marry? I think that late you take a risk you may not find someone.

Here are some things to look at - https://www.casadesolana.com/elopements.htm

You can have a ceremony in Florida but tell the officiant that you are doing a symbolic ceremony and file the legal paper work in your state.

We have had everything set for a few months, but had to wait on courthouse. Kept being told misinformation and only a month ago were more courthouses opening/taking appointments. If there is a courthouse that you think we have a great shot at being a walk-in and getting everything taken care of, please send me your recommendations

Hi Nicole! Since you're on a tight timeline I'd just call all the local county clerk's offices and see if they can issue you a license or if they have the same restrictions currently as St. John's county!

I'd definitely follow Lynnie's advice and call the county clerk directly. But I'm reading on the website for Monroe County (Keys) - Out of state residents there is no waiting period. It's always best to reach out directly.

I am not familiar with that. Can you not get the marriage license in your home state? Most officiants will marry you they just cannot notarize your license. I would ask. Last I read in Florida you have to get it three days prior and I do not think that has changed but you would need to get in touch with a court house or ask the officiant. I do not live near Saint Augustine so I am really unfamiliar with things there. Have you seen the links I sent you? Have you reached out to the officiants recommended on those sites?
