Florida Marriage, Will i receive only my Marriage license or will i get a Certificate too?

Brittany, on April 10, 2020 at 9:18 AM Posted in Married Life 0 2

Hello!

I got married in Florida on 03/02/2020 and got out Marriage license a few days before. I gave my marriage license to our officiant and they took care of signing it and sending it in. I received my copies back from the courthouse but it was only the license as certified copies. I was expecting an actual certificate. Do you received actual certificates from Florida? Or do i take my certified wedding license copy and use that for my name changes etc? I know I have read that they need an actual Certificate for change of name and not just the completed marriage license but maybe its different in different states?

You only get the certified copy of your marriage license back in the state of Florida. I never received a certificate of any kind. The certified license with the state seal after being processed works for all name change needs. I didn’t have any problems using the Florida license in Virginia at the social security office, dmv, and all credit cards and such.

The certified license with the seal should be all you need! I had a certified NC license that I used to process my name change with the DC social security office and dmv!
