Florist expectations

Virginia, on April 12, 2021 at 5:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
I had my first meeting today with a florist who specializes in weddings and I’m hoping that what I was told is not the norm. She told me the minimum for flower purchase was $800 and that delivery/ set-up was $400. She also said that we CANNOT have any other flowers present unless they come from her shop because of photos. Is this the norm?? What is the average everyone is spending on flowers? We’re having a small wedding (55 people) with only 7 tables. Thanks in advance for your input!

Prices vary widely by region, but Yes, I would say it is very standard for florists to put into their contract that you cannot have any other floral designs incorporated, especially DIY. Like she referenced, that runs the risk of a photo being posted by the venue attributing the work under their name when maybe it is not up to their standards, etc. and can damage their reputation. The minimums/delivery fees are probably more specific to her business.

What you are describing is industry standard. Price depends on your location so no two people will pay the same. Make sure to meet with more than one vendor before you book.

Yes, this all sounds very standard. The cost will vary greatly depending on where you live and what you are wanting (type of flowers, whether they are in season, how many & how large the arrangements are, how many bouquets, etc.). Our flowers are costing over $10k

Yes, it is very common for florists to restrict the use of other florals because they don't want someone else's work mistaken for their own. As for pricing, there are a number of factors that can influence the cost.

Sounds normal! I am interviewing florists right now and prices really vary a lot based on area and what exactly you need. In my area, small bouquets are around 60/75 each, larger ones around 100 and centerpieces range from simple (125) to high and complex (400+) for each centerpiece.

The pricing sounds standard however her photo policy/non vendor flowers does not.
You have no control over the venue decor nor do you have control over who takes pictures, what of, and what they do with them afterwards. Any pictures taken by your hired photographer are yours, not hers.
This stipulation sounds very unclear and ... odd.

Sounds like this is the norm from previous posts, but for mine she was very flexible. I was allowed to have any decor I wanted to bring in and she worked with any budget (no minimum). Certainly if you weren’t leaving the appointment floating on air, continue looking. Florals were really important to me and I left each appointment with my florist very happy and made the experience a positive one. I wish you the same experience ❤️

Thank you! This is our second wedding and pretty small and I only want to spend 8% of my budget on it since I realize it’s only one day and the food, open bar, entertainment and photography always mean more than the flowersSmiley smile

This sounds very normal. My florist charged a minimum of $4000 in order to book them for our wedding (they were a mid-range, not high-end florist), and after taxes, labor and set up fees, break down fees, etc. we ended up spending $6000 for flowers. There was also a clause in our contract stating no flowers allowed (real or fake) that were not from the florist
