Florist not responding

Jena, on February 28, 2023 at 10:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiance and I were supposed to get married in 2022, but 6 weeks before the wedding we found out he needed to get open heart surgery. We immediately decided to postpone the wedding to focus on his health, so we reached out to all of our vendors and they were all super accommodating in letting us move our wedding date.

Fast forward, our florist confirmed in writing that they were available for our new wedding date, said they have us scheduled on their side for the new date, and said they would send an updated contract for us to sign. That was back in October 2022. It's now February, and our wedding is in May. I've emailed them 5 times and called them twice - no response. We already put $1k+ deposit down in 2022 for Wedding #1, and did an in-person flower sample, or we'd find another florist without thinking twice.

I don't want to bank on his verbal confirmation that they will show up on our wedding day - especially with the lack of response. However, I don't want to lose the money either (though in the original contract it says we could get half the deposit back at this point, but if they're not responding I don't know how we would get that).

Would love any advice/suggestions.

Do they have a physical location or store that you can visit? If so, I would definitely stop in to talk to them in person. Otherwise, also try reaching out on any social media pages that they may have.

I agree with Lisa. If the florist has a shop and you live near by then I would stop in to talk with him.

    Hello:

I'm sorry you're going through this. Vendors are usually the folks that make weddings stressful so I can only image how stressful it really is since they are not responding. I would say reach out as many ways possible so when it comes down to it you can dispute the charge with the bank. Most banks will ask how many times you reached out to make sure you did your due diligence. I would also say try finding in someone else now just in case.

I really hope you can figure it out, I wish you well Smiley ring

Thanks all! This is really helpful. They do have a storefront but it's not a typical "walk-in" situation. They're located in an industrial building on the 2nd floor where you have to be buzzed up to get in, so I feel slightly aggressive just showing up to their shop?

Would you start exploring other florists at this point?

I wouldn't feel bad at all about showing up to their shop. You've been attempting to reach them for months, and your wedding is coming up quick, so it makes sense that you're looking to get flowers figured out now. If showing up at their shop doesn't work, then I would start reaching out to other florists ASAP. I would also consider whether legal action could help you recover your deposit if the original florist don't get back to you by your wedding day, since you have it in writing that they have you scheduled for your new date, and you also have records of attempting to get in contact with them.
